I gave it 4(for the number of decent songs)....it was horrible....if you like Blindside's old stuff(or even Silence), stay the heck away......went way too soft(although All of Us is great)....and most songs are super annoying....just plain bad...what a waste of talent....i was so disappointed when i got it...excuse me while i go throw up

Edit: There were accually Five good songs....Eye of the Storm, Follow You Down, All of Us, Where the Sun Never Dies and About a Burning Fire....but that's it

No, actually, it had 5 good songs. ;)

But, for the most part, I agree.

u didn't like "After Your Gone"? thats my favorite song on the cd. i gave it an 8 cause when its good its really good but there were some songs i wasn't too fond of. i cannot listen to more 5 seconds of "Swallow" without skipping it that songs just annoys me in every way, and i'm not too keen on "Hooray it's LA" either. but the rest of the cd i liked. i listen to this one a lot. although i will say i liked silence better.

I was dissapointed in this one. All of Us, and Shekina are the main two songs I listen to, not a good ratio lol.

I absolutely loved. All of us, Shekina, Eye of the Storm, After your gone, Roads, About a burning fire, All of em except Die buying. It was amazing. Though I liked silence better.

This is still one of my all time fav albums, but i would like to say there are some really poor songs on it also.

Posted on 03-25-2006 by earlessdog
eye of the storm is one of the greatest songs ever written in my opinion

Posted on 03-25-2006 by thyfunkispure
All of Us is my favorite song on that cd

I enjoy this cd a lot the only towo blindside cds i have are Silence and About a Burning Fire so i odnt really know what their old music soundds like. I think i like silence a little better then this one but still a very good cd.

Posted on 04-10-2005 by Opie
I thought it was alot better than all of you are making it out to be...But what do I know...

I was dissapointed though because I would assume that Billy Corogan would make a song better than how Hurray, It's LA turned out...oh well...

I'm with Opie. I haven't much knowledge of "classic" Blindside (with the exception of "Caught a Glimpse," "Sleepwalking," and "Pitiful"), but every song is darn catchy and loveable. I could care less if they've gone soft; what a stupid standard to hold them to.

Great album through and through, with a few subpar but no less catchy songs ("Swallow" and "Die Buying").

Meh. I didn't like this album as much as Silence.

i thought the cd was pretty awesome. i am not a fan of the old stuff. there best album is silence though. i just cant wait till there new album comes out this summer. its supposed to be alittle different.

Posted on 04-18-2006 by akaukal
good album overall. There is one problem about the whole genre changing though: Blindside is strongest when they are performing more screamo/hard rock songs than hardcore/metal songs. if they had started out the style they are now and then changed to what their old stuff sounds like, people wouldn't be complaining as much.

Posted on 04-18-2006 by Symbiotic
there would be just as much complaining, just from a different group of people....people like me, who are into harder stuff, would like them better, but people who like softer stuff would complain that they went to hard

Posted on 04-18-2006 by akaukal
i don't really get what you mean by 'softer'. they didn't go softer they just went to a dfferent style. it sounds louder and harder in their old stuff because there is a lack of decent bassline.

Posted on 04-18-2006 by Symbiotic
well, IMHO, i think it's a softer style than their old stuff....maybe not to others....

One of the best hard rock albums I've ever heard. "Eye of the Storm" and "About a Burning Fire" are the best. Christian's screaming is awesome and he has a very unique voice. I love this one.

Posted on 04-30-2005 by Symbiotic
those two songs are amazing....

classic blindside is much harder than anything off of silence. The thing is, they went from a hardness comparable to zao, to a much softer sound. Of course fans of the old stuff are not going to be pleased.

It was kind of surprising to me, and honestly, I don't like silence that much, or about a burning fire. I much prefer a thought crushed my mind to either of those, but when a band does a major genre change as blindside has done, it does make a difference in the audience.

Posted on 04-30-2005 by DKelly
Maybe they aren't as heavy as they once were, but a lot of people I've shown this CD to have loved this one.

Posted on 04-30-2005 by Symbiotic
i don't think blindside has ever been comparable to zao.....

genre changing: POD did it too, and some of their older fans don't like em as much...

as far as general hardness, Id say that a thought crushed my mind was very comparable in extreme nature to Zao.

Vow of silence is a prime example. Extremely hard, (though not precisely in the same sub-genre as zao) hardcore. But they have turned into some soft emoish band compared to what they were. I was thinking that it was comparable to zao/juliana theory. (Hence the Zao Comparison)

Posted on 05-01-2005 by Symbiotic
i still don't see it...but whatever...
i still don't see it...but whatever...
Juliana theory contains zao members past. At the time it was started I believe it was mostly Zao. Thus when they or the member(s) who were in zao released a softer project they did it under a different name.

Blindside shifted radically in the album silence from the previous albums. Thus by keeping the same blindside name, the fans were of course not getting what they would have expected.

Thus I thought Zao's approach was honestly better for a drastic stylistic shift. That way it kind of gave warnings to the fans to expect something completely different.

Posted on 05-01-2005 by DKelly
Ah, I see what you mean, I think.

Posted on 05-01-2005 by Symbiotic
So they change their name for a different style so their fans don't desert them?...that makes sense....POD shoulda done that....

Posted on 05-01-2005 by DKelly
I think that might be what he means, except Blindside didn't change their name, just their sound.

exactly, which left a lot of people dissapointed over an album that was pretty good for its genre.

Posted on 05-01-2005 by Symbiotic
Ya, i see what you mean...it is a good album...i just don't like it....it is very talented...

Posted on 05-05-2005 by aznguitarist28
yea i kno everyone is like this cd sucks compared to silence... and Yes, Silence was a great cd. but About a Burning fire is very different from other blindside cds ive heard. but that is not a bad thing either. What band can have a brilliant followup cd after a sucessful one? its very hard because of the expectation levels. so most people dont appreciate it at first. i am beginning to like this cd more now. I like alot of the songs on this cd but my favorite songs are Eye of the storm, Shakina, All of us, Die Buying and About a burning fire. the lyrics are awesome. another reason why blindside is one of my favorite bands. in my opinion, blindside made another sucessful cd.

Posted on 05-07-2005 by groober
decent, but still...not as good as silence...

Posted on 05-22-2005 by zildrummer6
i thought this cd was awsome but it was my first Blindside cd.

On Blindside's first album they were not nearly as hard as A Thought Crushed My Mind...I'd actually compare Silence, AABF and Blindside to each other in that none of them are generally hardcore like ATCMM...They have their harder moments while A Thought..... seems to be nothing but hard... I personally think the redefinitions of style shouldn't have to entail name switches...If a fan doesn't like the switch they don't have to listen anymore and I'd say About A Burning Fire is quite good...Not Hardcord but definately in line with what they've done before

I love it!!!

amazing album probably my faav from blindside.

Posted on 06-02-2006 by thomaspg70
Yeah I really like this album.

Posted on 06-07-2006 by akaukal
This is the order of Blindside's albums from best to worst(in my opinion):

A Thought Crushed My Mind>The Great Depression>About A Burning Fire>Silence>Self-Titled

Posted on 09-28-2005 by little-man
When I first got this album, I liked Silence more, but About a Burning Fire has really grown on me a lot. Eye of the Storm, About a Burning Fire, Hooray it's LA, After You're Gone, Skekina, and All of Us are all great songs! As was said before, Christian has a great, unique voice, and they're a pretty unique band overall.

Oh, and they put on a great live show.

Posted on 10-15-2005 by canguru2
I really like this CD. Half the songs I love, and half I haven't even tried listening to yet...
Shekina, After You're Gone, and All Of Us are my favorite songs from this album.

Posted on 11-02-2007 by normajean777
I just got this disc. Its great, much better than The Depression, and A Though Crushed my Mind, and rivaling Silence.

I love this cd... maybe not their best, but close.
10 times better live too!

Posted on 12-24-2007 by JerRocks2day
I finally acquired the CD. I gave it a 9 out of 10. While all the songs were great, they could've been a little more creative in either producing/recording/mixing.
