awesome cd. all the vocals that are sung and not screamed are incredibly catchy and will get stuck in ur head for a long time. i enjoyed this one a bunch, unfortunately i cant compare the new vocalist with the old guy because i haven't heard any of their older stuff but i'm gonna look into it. i love the track "some will seek forgiveness, others escape" it gives me chills.
"Young and aspiring", "reinventing your exit", and " a boy brushed red" are also great tracks

I absolutley love this cd, I give it a 10!
My favorite songs are "Reinventing Your Exit" and "Some Will Seek Forgiveness, Other Escape."

I like hardcore. This seemed generic though to me. Ive never gone emo...

pretty awsomeness!

this cd rocks. i like all the songs, but reinventing your exits not so much. the best song is of course some will seek forgiveness, others escape it. im so excited because i get to see them. i have to wait like 8 weeks though. spencer is way better than dallas.

Posted on 02-23-2005 by lilbrofro
reinventing ur exit is an awesome cd...i think we all agree that...."some will seek forgiveness, others will escape" is an amaaaaaaazing song......

I Don't have all this album but from what i heard it is great! I think my favorite is "It's Dangerous Business Walking Out Your Front Door"

Awesome CD! All of the songs are amazing. But there is one that will give you chills..."Some Will seek forgivness,Others will escape" it is truly an amazing song! If you havent listened to UnderOath I def. recommend them!

Posted on 03-27-2005 by underOATHrcks
This is an amazing cd. the cool sounding melodies with the fast paced guitar riffs and screaming lyrics is an awesome combination 4 underoath. if i had 2 picck a favorite song, its a tie between a boy brushed red..... living in black and white......., im content with losing, and some will seek forgiveness, others escape. ive followed underoath from their days back when they released cries of the past, and i loved them then, and i still do now

Posted on 03-29-2005 by Symbiotic
it is a very good cd....does it remind anyone else of Hoobastank?

Not really, but it is a very good CD.

I love the CD. Only one problem though. I think there needed to be maybe 1 or two more songs. 9 songs inst enough (Im not counting the Blue Note) but this is what I thought of the songs...

Young and Aspiring 9/10- I love the song alot. Really fun to play on the bass and rock out!

A boy brished red living in black and white 9/10- I love the lyircs in this song, and it sounds awesome

The Impact of reason 7/10- My least favorite song on here. But I still like it

Reinventing your exit 8/10- Use to be my favorite song, but then it got old.

The Blue Note 6/10- Its pretty cool I guess. Dont think it should of became a whole song though. they should of just added it on to a end of a song

Its dangerous business walking out your front door- 9/10- I love the song! Its so awesome. "Drowning in my sleep" Love the lyrics too

Down, set, go 9/10- Really like this song. I have been listening to it more and more recently

I dont feel very repective today- 9/10- Ok, Im wierd. I dont like to much screaming music. But for some reason I love underoath, and this song. I could listen to it all day. I love the pause in the song, then it starts back up. Ahhh, I love it. lol

Im content with Losing 10/10- My second favorite song on this CD. I love the lyrics, and the "Its all on me" part. I could sing that all day. lol.

Some will seek forgiveness, others escape- 10000/10 My favorite song ever. I downloaded like half of it before I got the CD, and it never got to the end part, so I thought it was just a slow song (Which it mostly is) and it was still cool back then. But I LOVE how it just goes into "Jesus, I'm ready to come HOME!!!" part. and I love the lyrics so much "Hey Unloving, I will love you"

K, thats my review for it. Its pretty much my favorite CD ever.

No, it reminds me of The Used and Taking Back Sunday.

Yeah, yeah... I know I was a little late in repsonding :stare: .

I've already heard(thanks to a very close friend in Oklahoma at college)their new CD(defining the great line) and in view of the whole cd,they're returning with a more metalish style of music, while still keeping their emo in it. All in all,it's a really good Cd,although it seems like a couple of songs seem to repeat the same riff over and over.........................

UNDEROATH ROCKS!

Posted on 05-13-2008 by Screamo116
I liked the cd, didnt love it, but i liked it. It's just a little to light. I used to like reinventing ur exit but it got old, my favorite would have to be,"down, set,go" and,"It's dangerous buisness walking out ur font door". The new CD, Survive kaelidoscope is a lot heavier though.

Posted on 05-14-2008 by akaukal
Their new cd is a live album. It has several songs from this album. How is it heavier? Plus it's not even out yet.

I like their softest song on the album, "Some will Seek Forgiveness, Others Escape" It's a real encouragement to the weak and feeble.

Underoath's new singer/screamer (spencer) is waayyy better than their old one (dallas)
I saw them in concert recently, and it was definitly one of the best shows I've ever been to! They are awesome live they totally rocked!! After the show I actually got to meet spencer and he signed the sleeve on the hoodie I bought!! It was so cool!
So yeah...they rock

Posted on 05-16-2005 by Symbiotic
ya, i was thinking of another band when i made the Hoobastank connection....sorry....i meant Dead Poetic: New Meds...let's not discuss that here....

WHAT?!?!?! All UnderOATH is amzizing....they said they didnt want anyone to get bored with their heavy stuff so they changed...for the better if you ask me.

8/10. Pretty good, but Define The Great Line is quite a bit better. It overall sounds a lot more matured than this.

Posted on 05-19-2005 by RawkforChrist
I don't have thier cd yet but I have downloaded some of thier songs off purevolume and I like them so I gave it a 7

A great album. But being fom bama i have much respect for Dallas. And if you miss him his new band resides in b'ham, it's called Maylene and the Sons of Disaster. Ohh yeah don't hate hate us emo-kids. We only have each other.

Posted on 06-16-2006 by ice_wiz
The CD is awesome!! The best songs are, A boy brushed red....living in black and white, Reinventing your exit, and Impact of reason.

wow, ya know i think these guys are a little overated. i'v heard a couple songs of them and just bought a cd of them off ebay a couple weeks ago. They are good though, we'll see if my mind changes when i hear the whole cd.

Posted on 06-17-2006 by legendary_chin
yea... all they do is scream, i cant understand almost anything they say, but whoever plays the guitar and the drums are pretty good.

Yeah... have you even heard the CD? They don't scream all the time. They sing quite a bit on this CD. To say that all they ever do is scream is ridiculous.

Sometimes I understand what they say, but if I dont I just flip open the handy dandy booklet that says all the words in it.

Posted on 06-23-2006 by earlessdog
oh, i love screaming. you can never have enough scream. But it was nothing exceptional for me. A bunch of drop d power chords. I still like it, its pretty good to listen too, but i've heard better.

Posted on 06-24-2005 by DKelly
I give this an 8, partially because I don't give out tens regularly and I don't feel this was quite worthy of a 9. But I'm basing that on the songs I heard on purevolume.

I just got this CD today. It is awesome!

Posted on 08-07-2006 by ABAC-P
this cd is nothing compared to the new one, but still amazing.

Posted on 08-07-2006 by John Allison
I absolutely love this album, and I love Define the Great Line too.
They're only chasing safety is completely different to the new one in most of the songs.
I've only heard a few of the songs before T.O.C.S., and i kinda liked them. Basically, if you're looking for hardcore, you won't find that much in this album, but if you're happy not to limit yourself to hardcore, then this a brilliant album.
I love the way they mix singing and screaming up in songs, unlike bands like haste the day and still remains sometimes do (scream verse, sing chorus).

One of my favourite cds.

Posted on 08-07-2006 by Uptown Thrunk
I think they are exceptionally creative when it comes to melody

i used to agree. I had there cd, thought it was ok, then hated it, now i like it. Although i still think they are a bit overated. But i am really looking forward to their concert next month. But, have you heard the new cd thomas? You'd like it more i think, musically they are alot heavier. They're only chasing safety musically is almost not heavy enough to suit the music, but thats pretty much screamo. If you havn't check out dfine the great line.

Posted on 09-13-2005 by thedemonhunter
Is it really that good? I love Reinventing Your Exit, but I've sampled the rest and it sounds weird :spin: ....I think they should be heavier if there's this much screaming.

Posted on 09-13-2005 by DKelly
I don't know. I actually like the way the screaming and the music sound together. It just sounds really good to me.

I agree with both of you; there's no need for it.

Forgive me for going against popular opinion, and I'm sorry if I disagree with you all... but I give the album a 2 out of 10.

This album is basically a re-hashing of recent trends with bland songwriting. It just seems to me completely unoriginal. I suppose to those who have not been exposed to this sort of music in the past might disagree, but there is really nothing unique or exciting I here in this band. And yes, I have heard the whole album. I own it. I bought it on a whim, and definitely believe it to be a waste of my money now.

Again, sorry if it sounds harsh. I don't mean to offend anyone who likes the cd, it just seems to me like... a trendy joke. I guess that means I suck.

I like the CD.
May not be the best band in the world but i give a 7 out of 10.
They rock and more importantly they rock for Jesus! ;)

Posted on 10-27-2005 by Asmo
great album

the only problem is underoath lost their metaledge

i used to be able to be angry or something and pop in some changing of times and just vent
now, this new cd, with its softer poppier edge seems to have lost its instumental and gained too much vocals.

i say their next album needs to balance both

Posted on 10-27-2005 by Inked in Blood
Ya I first heard them when they had the screamo style and then I heard them when they were metal (such as in "The Changing of Times") and I think they were alot better with Dallas Taylor fronting.

Posted on 10-27-2005 by Benny Hicks
Initially I really liked this band, but I'm starting to be a little weirded out by them. I mean, a lot of their music just isn't heavy and could suitably have any regular pop singer singing and would still sound fitting. I respect their creativity in trying to combine screamo and pop elements, but I'm starting to be turned off by it.

Posted on 10-29-2004 by ABAC-P
I love writing, and my creative writing teacher tells me practice makes perfect, so I'm writing a nice big They're Only Chasing Safety Review. Enjoy!

Song By Song:

Young and Aspiring(3:04)
9.5/10
Good song, starts out with some eerie effects and then erupts. Gives you a good feel of what to expect from the CD. One of the songs with more potent lyrics, especially the chorus. Guitars are nice, but nothing special.

A Boy Brushed Red....Living in Black and White(4:28)
7.5/10
Starts out with a very emo singing part by Gillespie, followed by a nice screaming part by Spencer. One of the more emo songs on the album, and drags on a bit during the verses. Still, not a bad song. Again, the guitars aren't anything to shout about, but they complement the excellent vocals.

The Impact of Reason(3:24)
10/10
Starts out with a very cool guitar riff. Has probably the best lyrics of any song except for maybe the last one. Is also one of the harder songs on the album, with only a few brief singing parts. Despite this, it is one of the most emotional songs on the album. The meaning, though subtle, is very powerful. In my opinion, the best song on the album.

Reinventing Your Exit(4:22)
8/10
This is the first single off the album, and as such is very emo, and very(almost overly) catchy. Still, a very well porduced song, and it never feels like it drags. As a side note, if you want to see an interesting video, check this one out.

The Blue Note(0:51)
6/10
Filler track. Some interesting effects, and the voice at the end is creepy.

It's Dangerous Business Walking Out Your Front Door(3:58)
8.5/10
Starts out with a nice screaming bit by Spencer, then goes into a technoish poppy verse which, if I'm not mistaken, Spencer sings. Some weird effects come into play here, but they sound very nice. The chorus is very emo, and the song drags a bit until the bridge, which has a nice drum solo and then a very cool choir part with spencer screaming over top of the choir. Awesome bridge, otherwise this song would have been rated lower.

Down, Set, Go(3:44)
7.5/10
Is it just me, or does this song have a very punky feel to it? This song starts out with Spencer screaming, and then goes into a punky verse, followed by a emo-punky chorus. The bridge goes into an acoustic bit with Gillespie singing, and goes hard again at the end with Spencer screaming. Very depressing lyrics. Overall a pretty good song.

I Don't Feel Very Receptive Today(3:42)
10/10
The hardest song on the album. There is no singing on this song at all, and it feels a bit more like the older UO stuff. The actual song is only about 2 and a half minutes long, but it has a nice purely musical ending to it, again remniscent of past UO stuff. The guitars are pretty cool, especially at the end. Probably my second favorite song on the album.

I'm Content With Losing(3:55)
8/10
Starts out like every song on the second part of this CD so far, with Spencer screaming. Very emotional song, with a very emo chorus. The bridge is probably the best part of the song, with multilayered vocals with underlying screams by Spencer. I'd be interested to see how they do this song in concert, along with track 6. This song also has some very cool guitar riffs.

Some Will Seek Forgiveness, Others Escape(4:21)
10/10
This song has guest vocals by Aaron Marsh from Copeland, and his soft vocals help to add to this song, which is the ballad of the album. The words are very powerful, and the ending almost brings me to tears. Show this song to anyone who doubts UO's christianity.

Time: 35:53
Overall:While not perfect, this album is the single most amazing emocore album I've ever heard, and deserves to be heard by everyone, even if you don't dig all that screaming. ;) Give it a shot, it will grow on you.
Rating: 10/10

I think it's great

Posted on 10-30-2004 by Jonular
One of my favorite releases of the year. Although not a popular opinion, I think the new vocalist is much better than the previous one. "Some Will Seek Forgiveness, Others Escape" is the "soft song" of the album, and I love it. A lot.

My only problem with it is that it's very short. Because of that, it goes from ten out of ten to nine out of ten.
This is off-topic, but is the new vocalist the one that is the drummer and sounds exactly like the guy from Taking Back Sunday?
No, the drummer sings some, but he is not the vocalist.

~Jon

Posted on 10-30-2004 by Mattlock
Oh. Well, the drummer guy sounds exactly like the guy from TBS.

Posted on 11-10-2004 by emo_boy
Yeah he does. The drummer does the biggest majority of the singing, and spencer does pretty much all screaming, but he does sing, like he does the harmony and a few solo parts.
I pretty much agree with what has been said. Great cd, awesome lyrics, better than the old Uo imo, I like spencer much better than dallas because you can actually understand what spencer says lol.
The only down side is that it's only 10 song (including 1 instrumental) and is very short.

Posted on 11-14-2004 by Unregisted
Old uO was totally amazing & Dallas was kick ass, although I don`t necessarily think Spencer`s a better lead than Dallas, he is an awesome performer and screamer. I especially like Spencer`s higher scream in uO than I did when he was in his old band, This Runs Through. uO now is amazing and I HOPE THERE`S NOT GONNA BE ANOTHER LINE UP CHANGE!! Cuz what was it, 3 line up changes?--- that`s enough man! And I think Aaron (uO drummer) is a better singer than the dude from TBS, most definitely.

I give it a 10!

Hillary Duff is "not heavy". Good grief - Underoath is definitely heavy, maybe not as heavy as you'd like them to be, but you'd be a fool to say they're not heavy whatsoever.

I bet I know what he means. Underoath used to be a progressive death metal band and they're not anymore. Even then, it is foolish to say they aren't heavy at all.
