These guys deserve a 10 just for having awesome guitar riffs in their songs, that's rare these days! But this is the best album I own. Every song is UNBELIEVABLE! Especially Broken and The Way I Feel.

This was definately a great release for the band. Everysong is unique to itself. They have great riffs, and a good over all feel to their songs. When I listen to their cd, I just start at the beginning and listen all the way through. The cd has no bad songs. They all rank a 10 in my books.

This is a great album from a great band. these guys are awesome. I love all of their songs. When i first heard one of their songs, i was like "sweet, i'm gonna have to check out some more songs", now i listen to thier album all the time.

Eric Weaver introduces something that's seemingly been lost in today's modern rock / Nu-Metal: the guitar solo. The technicality of the guitar playing, while not phenomenal, is much better than the majority of modern hard rock bands.

Paul McCoy is an excellent lyricist, with a great voice to present it. Whether he's singing melodically, or belting out a scream, the vocal quality is pretty darn good in my opinion.

One thing often overlooked in modern hard rock is the bass line, and Kevin Dorr does the job very well.

The drumming is mediocre. Nothing spectacular, but it gets the job done.

My only complaint is the fact that it does get quite repetitive, with pretty much every song being in the same key, being played in the same manner, (clean, picked verses, heavily distorted choruses, ends in guitar solo, followed by a final chorus).

While this album certainly isn't the best of the year, it is quite refreshing to see a Nu-Metal band display some actual talent, as opposed to the typical formula of lots of slow, drop-D power chords.

Overall, I give this album an 8.

Not a bad album, with 2 or 3 excellent songs and as many good ones. The guitar solos are excellent, while melodies are quite good. Unfortunately, the drumming completely lacks creativity, as do the lyrics. Most songs are vague vents of frustration, lacking poetry or wit, carried out by adequate vocals. Though the songs are all written to a similar formula, the intricate guitar parts prevent complete mundanity. A solid hard rock pick.

12 stones is great and I enjoy them. In particular I like the verse riffs and the bass, particularly during the verses. I really like their style; however, they could use a little variety. Even the great verse riffs everyone, including me, has been talkin about are repetitive. For example, the 3rd and 6th songs on the CD have strikingly similar riffs (that is in the rhythm, not necessarily in the notes played.) As someone has already said, their lyrics are a little vague. They also seem to use very little variety in song structure, as has been pointed out. They should experiment some with a few different structures, not too much though, cuz then it could lose thier individual sound. That's what's hard: creating a truly individual style while maintaining variety. Only a few bands have truly done it; Switchfoot is the best at it.

this is a fairly good cd. sadly, pretty much all the songs are in the same key. the screaming is cool. if you want the 12 stones sound with more variety check out kutless. they rock.

i give it an 8

hahaha...do we have a punk rock fan complainign about all the same key? Is there actually a punk rocker whining about repetitiveness?
::falls voer dead from shock::

I do think KULTESS is slightly better....saw them in cocnert at the Go Show.,.WOW.....only song I kewn was Run..man they're sweet...anywyas.,.this is a 12 Stoens thread..so enuff HUTLKESS...

my favorite song on here is "The Way I Feel". 12 stones rocks

I don't think power chords are bad. Do any of you think power chords are bad? A good example of power chords dc Talk: "Jesus Freak."

Posted on 04-17-2003 by punker15
power chords can be used VERY effectively! twelve stones does a good job with them. and it doesn't get boring 'cause they throw in some great riffs too.

Posted on 04-22-2003 by iplygtr
I fail to see a problem with power chords. It makes the song easier to duplicate in live performances. As for "shallow lyrics", don't mistake shallow for simple. The plan of Salvation is simpleas well, and at least with Kutless, it's not hard to know where they stand.
Don't get me wrong I enjoy 12 Stones as well. I think they are a solid band with a lot of good things to say. I just think that Kutless is a better band.
But like it has been said before in this forum, to each his own.
God Bless

I jsut wanna add...
that despite soem harsh comments...this thread has not goen too far with anythign said....something as obviously controversial as this thread can get not so nice a lot of tiems....glad this didnt...

and.

".#1. The Psalms are worship. Kutless' songs (for the most part) are not.

#2. The infallible word of God is not open to artistic critique. Rock music is."

#1- the Psalms are worship true, but they ahve the same intent as KUTLESS to turn our thoughts adn minds to what and who God is...

#2- the say KUTLESS' music is too repetitive...well the infallible word of Godis also...if yu hold this agaisnt KUTLESS you logically hold it agaisnt the Bible as well..if yu dont, yu are cherry picking, not sharign a general feeling of artistic evaluation...
#3- I vastly respect yur reponse to ym nubmer 3

I wouldn't doubt that. Josh Freese does tons of studio work. He also did one of Evanescence's and one of Avril Lavigne's albums, if I remember correctly.

12 Stones is real cool group. I like the guitar solos and heavy riffs on the CD; awesome stuff. I did give them nine rather than a ten though because of their reptitiveness, which has already been touched on.

As far as Kutless versus 12 Stones is concerned: 12 Stone has a more musical edge in their music due to their solos and screaming, but Kutless is very good in their own right because they convey alot of passion through their musical structure and non-repetitiveness. My Youth Drama team does a human video to "Run" by Kutless that I thought up and staged. It is a very powerful ministry tool and very God birthed and moving video.

I feel Kutless' music is more ministry focused where as 12 Stones' is more self expressionistic. Either way, I like both bands equally. Both have great potential.

WOW! I'm lovin it...We're doing a cover of Crash at camp! woohoo!

Posted on 06-21-2003 by AllTheWayLive86
Very good guitar riffs and solos. I will have to agree that some songs sound very much alike. However, there are many great songs with some sweet guitars.

Their singer is very good. The lyrics are very good as well. Some of them really spoke to me about some things I've have been through lately. He's very versatile in his range and his style.

Drumming isn't bad. Nothing mind blowing and nothing bad.

All in all, a solid album. A very good first release. Some of my favorites are Crash, The WAy I Feel, Broken, and Back Up.

ok first off to legionjedi...ok the reason Switchfoot is best at alternating their musical compositions and such, everything from style to structure, is because Switchfoot is a band that has set themself up with that as their trademark. Switchfoot's trademark is simply you never have an idea of what is coming next, because they do not play one type, or even one genre of music. Switchfoot is all over their map and they retain their individual style in never retaining the same style, so of course they are best at "switching" things up. But anyways...back to the topic at hand...this cd is an awesome rock cd. The only thing I wish 12 Stones would do is learn to slow it up. For example the way Kutless does with "Sea of Faces" and such. Something acoustic, something piano, something! This cd definitely struggles somewhat with repetition. A lot of their riffs are nearly identical for example listen to "The Way I Feel" and "Fade Away." Just a little similar, eh? Yeah. There are some differences but definitely very close. They have some awesome guitar solos, which is one thing they out-do Kutless with. Soloing is a lost art, 12 Stones does a pretty good job at it. They just need to learn to play in some new keys and with some different timings and tempos so they can switch up their riffs. I cannot wait to hear their new album with their new drummer...maybe that will help with changing up some stuff. Time will tell. Well, anyways overall good rock cd only a couple songs i dislike; "Soulfire" and "Let Go." Poor attempts to switch tempos a little. Anyways, good cd, especially for a debut. Couldn't expect more. 9.

i agree, i haven't actually sat down and listened to every song individually, but it was a good cd to just rock out, but it did seem to lack some depth from the lack of variety. it was a little repetative, but if you're not listening, its just in the background and your rockin out doin something else, then its awesome

pretty spiff.

This Cd has been the most played cd in my collection. I gave it a 10 because, all though they are not classified as a christian band, they have a good way of getting everybody to listen to them. They play concerts with mainstream secular rock bands and get their message across to people who otherwise would most likely be turned off by someone talking about the God and how he changed their lives. These guys !!ROCK!! I saw them in concert and they were awesome.

My favorite songs on this CD are Crash, Broken, The Way I Feel, Back Up and Running Out of Pain. I'm learning to play Crash on the guitar and I can already play Running Out of Pain.

Well, Mattlock, consider this: How many Christian rock CDs have a guitar solo that more that two measures long in every song on the CD? This one does.

Gosh, you're just a musical naysayer, aren't you?

Personally, yeah the CD's repetitive, music is kinda boring, and the lyrics are "cliched" as it were, but I don't care. I still enjoy it.

My REAL vote on this one is a 7.8, rather than the 10 I gave it however many years ago that was.
