This is a must have! Dude, this CD rocks! You must buy it! Pillar is the best! Go see them live! God rocks!

This cd rocks!!!! The guitars are great. The music is a good mix of hard rock/rapcore and I like the screams. The beginning of ''fireproof'' sounds really cool.

THIS CD ROCKS!!!!! Pillar is one my favourite bands and this album is amazing. They have great vocals and great instrumentals. I love all of their songs and i can't wait for them to come out with a new album. This is an amazing CD and i recommend you buy it if you don't have it.

I'm seeing Pillar live in less than a month....

Awesome CD...get it....sweet riffs, and a few good screams....all with great lyrics!

i got this cd, it'll take some getting used to, but i know i'll love it

Posted on 01-29-2003 by Skeeter
This is a fine CD, but I found the lyrics a little simplistic at times. However, the songs are very catchy and well put together. It receives an 8.

And don't forget the amazing cover design!

Posted on 01-29-2003 by jude
actually, i thought the lyrics were pretty good, especially in comparison with some other bands.
You can easily tell who they are

Ok, I just gave this album a 1, and before you all jump down my throat, listen to what I have to say. Lyrically, these guys have no talent at all. How hard is it to write "live for God, Jesus loves you, I love Jesus" every single song? Don't get me wrong, I am a Christian, and I love Jesus, but when I listen to music, I want to hear something of significance...I love a good worship song, or even CD, like all of Skillet's stuff, but Pillar presents it in such a boring manner that it makes me want to go to sleep. Musically, where has all their experimentation go? On "Above", there were quite a few different styles present, but on "Fireproof" they just sit there with the same style, over and over again. I don't understand why the Christian community loves these guys so much. Every review I've read calls them "a perfect Christian counterpart of bands like Limb Bizkit and Linkin Park." I don't know any band who wants to sound as horrible as Limp Bizkit, or a repetative as Linkin Park. I don't want a Christian Limp Bizkit, I want an honest cd that sounds like it took some effort to make. This cd doesn't deliver. In layman's terms, this CD sucks.

I tend to agree with you on this point... Their lyrics are a bit redundant, and simple most of the time, but there are some redeeming moments, such as "Indivisible."

On Above, the musical style was just as redundant, except, on top of being monotonous, it just plain sucked. Fireproof, while dwelling on the same musical style through the whole album (which I don't see what you have a problem with), did so very well. Pillar has improved a lot artistically since Above, adding more bass and drums into the mix, where the focus was entirely on the guitar and the rapping vocals on Above.

I wholeheartedly agree. I don't want to hear Mtv clones, I want to hear an original band. But, if you ask me, Pillar is very original, and delivers "rap/core" in a way that has not been done before.

I used to own the Flicker Records (FR) version of this CD, which was out before they hooked up with MCA and became faamous. I now own the MCA version, whcih is a lot better musically, distortionally, and song organizationally. The FR version was too repetative and sounded too much like Indie Rock, which no offense but I don't think has much skill in it. The MCA remix is a whole lot better. They turn the reverb up and the playing has more skill. Plus, now they have a y good new drummer, Lester Estelle (that's a sweet name, man). I haven't heard him but he's probably much better than Brad was. Anyway, I recomend getting the MCA version of this CD. (Though they're not my favorite band, they are pretty good on the MCA CD.) It's carzy, man! :kcool:

this cd totally rocks! love the riffs that start out most of the songs. someone said this cd has lame lyrics. well... i agree with underground girl. i think all the lyrics are totally original! it's great to have a band that doesn't water down their lyrics. with pillar going mainstream, i hope and pray they will reach the lost with their strong message.

pillar is proabably my third favorite band next to switchfoot and audio adrenaline

i give the cd a 10

my favorite songs are: fireproof, echelon, and just 2 get by

check out my website! www.ilikeskateboarding.com

totally love this cd.

i disagree with comment about the lyrics being unoriginal. the following lyrics do not apear in any song in this cd! live for God, Jesus loves you, I love Jesus... these songs make you stop and think about your life.

very talented band!

i give fireproof a 10!

As good as the music may be, and as great as the "message" is, the lyrics used to deliver it are extremely shallow, and oftentimes overused.

Take this line for example:
"Evolutionists, we got love for you too,
but we're breaking down walls seeking out the truth."
First of all, the proper term would be "atheists," not "evolutionists," as there are many Christians who are theistic evolutionists (IE: the belief that God created the world through evolution; first few chapters of Genesis are figurative), and I assume that the object of this sentence is literally, atheists, not evolutionists. Secondly, "breaking down walls" and "seeking out truth" are both far overused clichés. Flaws like these in the lyrics are littered throughout the CD. There is nothing that seperates the quality of their lyrics (note: quality of lyrics, not quality of message) from any other mediocre CCM band.

Overall, a decent band with talented musicians, but I'd like to see some more thought put into the lyrics.
This is a great cd! Go out and buy it if you like Linkin Park! Very similar bands!
They aren't really that similar, but they both are good bands. Pillar is much better in my opinion. Much better guitarist.

Posted on 04-05-2005 by Symbiotic
i would agree

Posted on 04-07-2003 by IndoGuy
These guys give a great message out in a faboulous style! They rock! Like POD and Project 86 but better. I will give it a 10. Best songs are Ashamed, Fireproof and Echelon.

Posted on 04-12-2003 by rkcoolguy
in my opinion i think that pillar has been blessed by God and that he has a plan for the band and maybe they will save many more lives.....i guess going mainstream isn't really going to change their beliefs i hope that they mention GOD in all of their songs unlike other bands who claim to be christian and true belivers, but don't really want to talk about God in their songs well i think that they are cool and they have influenced to stand up for GOD

God bless u all

This cd is awesome!!!!!!! when i go to church and sing hymns, they bore me to death. but pillar is awesome, and their style of music pierces my soul with a positive message. I have both above and firproof cds, and they both rock to the end of time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! if you do not own them, you need them. :D

Posted on 04-27-2005 by Unregisted
i seen Pillar in concert, they are the best chrisitan rock band i have seen by far. if you do not own the cd you don't know what you are missing. i rate them a 10!!!!!!!

Definitely one of my all-time favorite cds. Pillar rocks my face off!

Posted on 05-20-2003 by Unregisted
dude, this CD is amazing. i saw them live and bought the cd within 5 minutes at fresitival con dios. this band is tewice tha band POD is, its amazing. seriously buy there stuff, its nuts. oh, and watch for there new single FIREPROOF in mtv really soon!

Posted on 05-20-2003 by NobleWard
I think Pillar is a very bold band making a very bold statement. To the person who posted the thing on "evolutionists" should be "atheists", theistic evolution contradicts every foundational doctrine in the Bible, from Original Sin to the purpose of the Crucifixation. So the statement about evolutionists is very fitting in the song.

excellent cd, just got it today, listenin rite now. defintely grown since their first. its too short tho!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted on 06-21-2002 by orangey47
This is definetly the best CD yet from Pillar! It's totally rockin' and the music is just sooooo cool! Even if you didn't like the first record, check this one out!

Posted on 06-21-2003 by AllTheWayLive86
I wasn't a very big fan of Above either. I actually got it after Fireproof. I heard this guys were good, and I saw the cd on sale for $10.99, so I bought it. I think this was one of my best purchases ever. Though I didn't like the heavier stuff at first ( heavier compared to punk), it very gradually grew on me.

The guitars in this are amazing. Noah is a great player. The guitars fit perfectly in the songs. Very tricky riffs on several songs. Lyrics are very well done. Pillar carries a good message in their songs. This is one of my favorites. 10.

Fireproof is a great album. Musically, it gets a ten. I would give it a ten, but it's only 39 minutes long. So it gets a 9.

has anyone bothered to buy the new remixed fireproof. its sonically way better than their flicker release. and it has 1 more song on it, and a dvd if you're lucky. it rocks hard. the remix makes it an 11 now.

Posted on 06-21-2003 by Danny
Have they just redone all the songs on a different label? Or is it a techno remix type thing?

Posted on 06-21-2003 by Unregisted
NO LYRICAL TALENT!!!!!! If there lyrics are praisin' God what difference does it make if they're redundant! I would hope they were in praisin' God! And if you fall asleep listenin to them, you must be deaf in at least one ear. The musicallity of Noah on the 6 strang thang along with their new drummer makes me wanna scream it's so good! It's like ear candy to a fat boy!!!! (no offense!) THE NEW CD IS WAY AWESOME! It's great to see that they went mainstream and kept true to God. If you haven't heard the new song on the album "In God We Trust" it's worth buyin just for that! I heard it live in Arlington back a few months ago and they were rockin' hard! PILLAR Please keep up the good work! ROCK ON!!!!

Posted on 06-21-2003 by Danny
You're absolutely right. Heaven forbid a Christian artist actually thrive for excellence when he can get away with mediocrity, so long as he says "God" a few times?

Newsflash: Music is an artform, not evangelism. It should be judged as such. "Praisin' God" does not equate to good lyricism.

People like you are the reason Christian music sucks so hard in comparison to secular.

Posted on 06-21-2003 by Avalanche 126
who are we talking to or about here?? im confused??

and by the way for the remix...since they got resigned to another label, a secular label, they took the album back to the studio and brought out sounds and instruments/vocals and the like out they really wanted the first time but couldnt get. there are some different guitar licks and drums but its rare and you would have to know how the first album sounded to kno the changes in the remix. they added a fireproof radio version to it. i think it is alot cleaner and soundsa crisper/better. but no techno remix type cd

Posted on 06-23-2003 by Sean
who are we talking to or about here?? im confused??
Dan-O was talking to guest. Probably in reference to when he said "If there lyrics are praisin' God what difference does it make if they're redundant! I would hope they were in praisin' God!"

I haven't heard the new version, but a cleaner sound fits their style.

Its not uncommon for bands CDs to get remixed like that when they get picked up by a major label. My audio engineer recorded a band called Nillah. After they recorded the band, the band got picked up by a major label. The label hired "Super Mixer Dude" to mix the CD and make it MTV worthy.

Posted on 06-28-2005 by CRloveSkillet13
I agree, it is a really good cd. But, there is a better one of them now-Where do we go from here. It is like 10 times better than Fireproof(even though this thread is for Fireproof). I wonder why there isn't a thread for Where do we go from here, yet.
Maybe I'll start one! As for Fireproof, I like it, but I don't care too much for rap rock.
The best songs on it are Fireproof, Behind closed doors, and Further from myself.
I'd probably give the CD a 10 though!

This cd is mediocre at best.

pillar are my fave band THEY ROCK!!! the album is amazing i live in england so i never get to see them in concert :( the songs are great. love the riffs Noah (love the name) Robs vocals are so cool. especially on further from myself that song rocks. The lyrics are amazing. it's great to see a lively band do so well with great christian messages in all their songs. Guitar=great Bass=boomin! vocals= cool (like the screams) Drums=er...wow!? lol :)
my fave songs are fireproof, echelon and just to get by

Posted on 07-04-2002 by Danny
I wasn't too crazy about "Above", they were talented musically, but not so much artisticly, but the second I heard "Fireproof" on the radio, I was like 'cool, sounds like there's a new hard rock band out' and then the dj says, 'that was the latest single from Pillar...' I was like what?! I have the CD now, and it is the absolute best CD I have ever heard! If eleven was an option, I'd pick that.

P.S. I've got a tab for "Fireproof" out now, check it out. It's almost 100% accurate. It should be the second "Fireproof" tab listed. If there's only one, it might not be posted yet.

Pillar is a really great band and this cd is a great cd! All the songs have important meaning to them and the song fireproof is totaly based on the bible if you don't belive me then go under there web page and see for yourself!(www.pillarmusic.com).If you don't have the cd then go and get it.

PIllar rocks. I heard a sample of pillar from a friend and had to get the new album for myself. its awesome.

Posted on 07-05-2003 by pillar_freak_ug
Pillar is a very good band! Lyrically, they are very talented. They have some very strong songs. Strong sayings are everywhere. EX: You're taking a risk when you resist the one who makes you exist....Evolutionists, we got love for you too, but we're breaking down walls seeking out the Truth....I'm a soldier in this army of one, and like I told ya the battle's already won.... Those are just a few examples and only from one song! Pillar has truely influenced me in my walk with the Lord and in my musical "venture" so to speak. My song writing has been recognized from local artists. Not big time artists yet, cuz I'm only 13 and live in a small town. Here is the chorus to one of my songs called "Eternity": He gave His humble life for me, His graceful heart has set me free. Jesus Christ, He woke me up and gave me eternity. That is just one of my many songs, and Pillar has had an influence on most of them. The most influence is seen in the verses, but it is undoubtedly there. Pillar has matured very much since their first few albums. Their newest effort especially. Fireproof has gained the attention and respect of many record labels and "big time" people from across the nation. Pillar is doing very well in their musical and spiritual journey, and I fully support them. stay up, sarah

Everything Pillar did wrong on their last album they did right with this one. These guys are incredible. Fireproof and Echelon are the best songs to me, bu then again they all rock!!

Pillar has truly done an awesome job on this cd. It is probably one of the best cds I own. I listen to this one constantly. Play this cd loud. The whole cd is so awesome. Buy it if u get the chance to.

Pillar is the best band ever period

Posted on 08-04-2002 by Peter
It's pretty good - -I like fireproof and echelon - Pillar seem to be a bit of a rip-off band, taking equal parts Linkin Park and Fred Durst and giving it a Christian gilded edge - but it's still rockin', and I like it!

Posted on 08-12-2002 by Underhill

Yeah, you can tell they've been influenced by Linkin Park and Limp Bizkit to name a few...but the sound is absolutely great, and their lyrics are fantastic!

I'm sooo glad I took the chance and added this to my collection. Kudos to Pillar for offering a few full mp3's on their site for download too! :D

once you get this album play it very very very loud

This album is so much better than WDWGFH?. Much more mature songwriting. I loved Fireproof, Indivisible, Echelon, songs like that. 9 from me.

Posted on 11-04-2006 by play/crk\th/sky
Fireproof is definetly one of the best (in my opinion) christian hard rock/metal CD's with little screamo (of what I remember, haven't listened to that CD in a while)
At the time I bought the album, i'd say it was probably a 8.5 or 9.

Pretty much, they just re-released the album with MCA Records. I think it rocks way more than the first one. Songs such as Fireproof, Echelon, Indivisible, and especially Behind Closed Doors have more punch to them. And "A Shame" sounds like a whole new song. It's definately worth buying!

Hi, Everybody!!! I'm kinda new to the site. Listen, I want to thank everybody for the kind remarks about Pillar! I'm on Pillar's street team, and I agree--they rock! If any of you get the chance to go out and see them in person, please do so--you'll really love it! They'll rock your face off! They are also a bunch of really , really nice guys, who truly love and appreciate their fans more than most bands. They spend lots of time just hangin' out with everyone...no egos on these guys! While I am truly grateful for the positive comments about Pillar, I wanted to address the negative ones too. Someone said Pillar seems like kind of a "rip-off" band. Doesn't almost EVERY band sound similar to someone else? I mean, you could say almost any band out there has someone who sounds like them. Believe me---Pillar has ORIGINAL stuff! Sure, they like other bands, just like everyone else does, but they sound like themselves! They are NOT trying to copy anyone, ESPECIALLY NOT Fred Durst! They are just trying to share the gifts and talents GOD has given them, and lead people to hope in Jesus Christ. I've had oppurtunity to meet and talk with the entire band several times, and actually kinda struck up an acquaintance with Kalel, (the bass player)...and believe me guys--it's ALL TOTALLY about JESUS for them! They mean what they sing! Jesus is their life! I've never known a more real bunch of guys! Please don't rob them of their dedication and hard work by saying they are a rip-off of someone else! GOD created them and their music unique! They are all musical geniuses, and they work super-hard. Please take it from someone who has seen it first hand! Not to mention that they love kids, and are rooting for you all to make it to Heaven! Please keep in mind that the guys might actually read this stuff, and how would YOU feel if YOU worked that hard, and were just trying to share GOD'S love and someone put you down? Kalel, and all the guys work really hard on what they write! And they are the real deal! Also, to the ones who said Noah is a much better guitar player than Travis,(Pillar's first lead guitarist)..Noah is AWESOME--and soooo friendly, but Travis was AWESOME too, and he is also very nice! You only heard one cd Travis was on, and he does understand theory, he was, and is very good! And the guys all love him! No one asked him to leave or anything, he just wanted to spend more time with his family. This is also the reason Brad, (the drummer on both "Above" and "Fireproof") left. They now have Lester, who is just as awesome as Brad, and also a totally nice guy! I'm not trying to hurt anyone's felings or diss them--I got love for you all--I really do--just please, think about what you're writing...I mean, this is supposed to be a christian site---let's not slam anyone or hurt their feelings! I want to be able to tell Kalel, and Rob, and the other guys to read all the neat things you guys have said about them, it would really encourage them! They love all their fans, and really do appreciate them! I would like to encourage all of you to check out their website or even join their UG street team. The guys are getting ready for great things with GOD! they've been noticed by 2 major recording labels, and offered deals already. But this is how serious they are about THE LORD---they aren't rushing into anything---they won't compromise their message about JESUS for ANYTHING, no matter what!!! Well, peace and love to you all! I hope I didn't offend anyone, but let's be kind with our comments, ok? You never know who could end up reading them! A VERY WISE MAN SAID: "Do unto others, as you would have them do to you!" GOD BLESS! Underground girl

Posted on 11-19-2002 by Danny
Hey underground girl!

Welcome to CGR. :D

I saw the guys at Festival Con Dios (although I didn't get a chance to personally meet them), and I was wondering if the new drummer was just a substitute or if the other guy left. And with the differences between Noah and Travis, it's not so much the playing as it is the writing... I much prefer the flow and feel of Fireproof over Above. Above was just too darn happy sounding, whereas Fireproof had more of that edgy feel to it.

Rock on girl! And IM me sometime. AIM s/n: AlternateReal1ty

This is a cool cd! Best song is definitely the fireproof song. Pillar has a lot of good stuff.

A 10!! Pillar is an awesome band. I like both CDs, although I prefer Fireproof over Above simply because the sound seems more mature in tone is all. My favorite song would probably have to be Echelon. The whole harmonic guitar riffing is awesome. I hope to someday be able to play like that, it's just a really cool sound. Lyrically, the CD is smack to the face Christian, challenging us as Believers to do more with our faith than simply survive. I respect the lyrics greatly (not to satisfying to my poetic taste, but other hard Christian bands, i.e. 38th Parallel, can do that alongside Pillar with the wonder of a CD burner and alot of mixer ingenuity.( :) Go Mixer CDs!!.) Very hard edged, filling the gap in my collection that POD once filled (I have my 'researched' opinions about POD musically. I do not judge them personally, but artistically I think they have made some rather ill thought out actions, so I systematically broken and thrown away their CDs I owned). Great stuff all around.
