7.5/10. There's quite a few good songs, but I would have liked for more of Project 86's post-hardcore sound. The vocals are still a strong point, keeping you engaged throughout the album. The guitars and bass on the other hand aren't amazing. The guitars don't really have any surprises, they also are pretty repetitive. The bass sounds lost in the music, it sounds underused and forgotten. Still a solid album though, but far from Project 86's best.

GREAT cd from Project 86, i highly recomend it, solid all the way through. Kinda short, but definetly awesome, they have a bit of a different sound in this album, nice.

It's something new and different. Only about two songs that really didn't stand out to me. Besides that, it's a great album. I gave it an 8. Oh, and "Put Your Lips To The TV" totally rocks face off.

I like Pull Me Closer, Violent Dancer :)

I LOVE THIS CD!!! One of my fav's right now. It's good to see Project 86 explore beyond their original genre, which Rival Factions does perfectly. I got to see them live at Six Flags a couple of months ago and they played "Evil", "Put Your Lips to the TV", and "The Forces Of Radio Have Dropped A Viper Into The Rhythm Section" (one of the best songs to hear live) and they all sounded great. :yep: I also like Caveman Jam because of the bass (i just figured it out on the bass and I'm planning to tab it soon :D ). To sum up....... 10!!!

Its a great disc, better than the last one, but less good than Songs to Burn Your Bridges By, which was amazing. I like listening to the songs, but theres alot of chorus and not enough story telling, difference within a song. Although lots of bands repeat their choruses way to much it just puts a damper on because the song gets boring faster. Its a 7.

It's a very solid album. Great work Project!
I think it sounds like a combination of Truthless Heroes and The Killers and something else.

I'm thoroughly enjoying it, especially Pull Me Closer Violent Dancer, Cavemen Jam and Evil. *thumbs up*

Exactly. The music sounds pretty much the same throught this album. Save for the two slower songs (Molotov and Normandy) The guitar sounds the same, and you can't hear the bass as much. And when you can hear the bass, it is distorted (Caveman Jam) and blends into the guitar even more. The only song that really stood out to me was The Sanctuary Hum. That is a great song. But overall, very disappointing for me. I like TH much better. Come to think of it, I liked pretty much every other one better.

Are you freaking kidding me? The bass is almost as present as the guitar, if not more in most of the songs.

I would agree, only I think it makes the album sound cohesive and better. Also, isn't that true with their other albums? If you think this album sounds similar, don't you think the same about ...And the Rest Will Follow or Drawing Black Lines? The songs on Rival Factions are certainly diverse enough that it doesn't sound like one song on repeat (a la Nickelback). That said, I understand this album being a love it or hate it kind of thing for Project 86 fans.

Personally, I love the album. It's catchy! Project 86 making fun songs is actually really cool. I am a Project fanboy, so it's not like I'd actually criticize them, anyways.

I don't know, maybe its because the bass is distorted half the time. It is really present on Caveman Jam, but it is not as prominent in my opinion as in their other albums.

I respect your opinion, I was just disappointed with this album. It is OK for them to have fun, I just liked their older sound better.

Me too, I'm afraid.

I liked the cd, but it just wasn't Project to me. It was like ordering a steak and discovering it tastes like ice cream; it was good for what it was, but it wasn't what I wanted.

I liked it. It is fast and energetic.

I do love this album. My favorites are The Kane Mutiny, Illuminate, Evil, Normandy, Put Your Lips To The TV, and The Sanctuary Hum. Project 86 is nose bleed awesome.....whatever that means.

It works as a nice CD, but I love Truthless Heroes and Songs to Burn Your Bridges.. I can't love this CD like that. His voice was so awesome back then.

The only CD of theirs I like more than this one is And the Rest Will Follow... That CD was their best. I haven't heard STBYBB for awhile because my brother stole it back.

It's amazing. It's so diverse, yet so fluid. "Evil" is a straight up rocker, then you're taken to almost metal in "Forces of Radio", to the U2-like song "Moltov", down to the Rammstein inlfuenced "Illuminate", the awesome bassline on "Caveman Jam", to the gothic punk rocker "Normandy". Yet it's all still so fluid.

This is the best thing they've put out. Pull Me Closer, Violent Dancer is absolutely incredible.

I love how with this album, they created songs not only diverse and different, but fun and catchy as well.

Sounds good. I can certainly see that.

Anything to put the bad taste out in my mouth from . . .And the Rest will Follow. That was terrible.

I think everyone would agree its a depart from there typical sound, but I have to disagree about it not being Project. This album is another side to them that we've never seen before and I LOVE the energy on this album. Its nothing like what happened to P.O.D. when they put out Payable On Death (I nearly cried after that album). One of the better albums Project has put out, but I think the middle of the album was a little weak. Much better than Truthless Heroes, even though TH has some awesome songs too; Last Meal anyone?

I give it 7/10
Favorite tracks:
Evil, Pull Me Closer, and Sanctuary Hum

The cd itself is pretty catchy, but for some reason I just can't get into the whole thing like most of their other cds. Schawb's vocals are still good and the guitars sound nice. The bass lines (which for me is one of the most memorable things about Project 86) let me down a tad bit.

If I had to rank the cd's Project has put out, I would put this number 4 under Drawing Black Lines, The Rest Will Follow, and Songs to Burn Your Bridges by...

good cd, not their best work ever, but still strong.
