Don't strum alone... |
(By Tyson)
As one learns to walk early in life, they should learn to walk on the fretboard early on in their guitar training. Basically, walking provides an easy sounding transition between chords by picking the notes in-between them in the given key. You'll mainly hear this in folk music, but hey, it sounds cool on anything. In this lesson I will show you how to walk up and down between several chords. Please bear in mind that anything I show you in this lesson can be done backwards. Let's begin, shall we?
Walking in the key of C
First off I'll show you how to walk from G to C, try walking there and back several times.

Walking in the key of E
Sure there are 12 keys out there, but I'm only going to teach you how to walk with 3 of them and let you figure out the rest. After all, I can't do all the work :0) Here's E to A. By the way, the 3rd fret E string G note is found on the blues scale in the key of E.
