Don't strum alone... |
(By Tyson)
Hello people. I'm sorry I didn't get up a lesson
last week, I was at One Festival in Memphis Tn. and I didn't have
a chance to sit down and write one, but I'm here now and that's what
counts... right?
I thought that since we only touched on DADGBD tuning last time there
is still more to be said. So I will. Be sure to read the
lessons on "DADGB Tuning" and "Neck Notes" before you begin.
As I said in the "Neck Notes" lesson, the notes in the key of G are
as follows in standard tuning.
| e-0-2-3-5-7-9-10-12-14-15-17-19-20-22-24
B-0-1-3-5-7-9-10-12-13-15-17-19-20-22-24 G-0-2-4-5-7-9-11-12-14-16-17-19-20-23-24 D-0-2-4-5-7-9-11-12-14-16-17-19-20-23-24 A-0-2-3-5-7-9-10-12-14-15-17-19-20-22-24 E-0-2-3-5-7-9-10-12-14-15-17-19-20-22-24 |
So with DADGBD tuning they are:
| d-0-2-4-5-7-9-11-12-14-16-17-19-20-23-24
B-0-1-3-5-7-9-10-12-13-15-17-19-20-22-24 G-0-2-4-5-7-9-11-12-14-16-17-19-20-23-24 D-0-2-4-5-7-9-11-12-14-16-17-19-20-23-24 A-0-2-3-5-7-9-10-12-14-15-17-19-20-22-24 D-0-2-4-5-7-9-11-12-14-16-17-19-20-23-24 |
That in itself should be helpful for creating snappy solo's and unique
chord voicings, but I won't end it there.
Here
are some examples of chords you can make using that chart. Most
of them don't have real names so I just thought them up. Try them
out and then make your own chords.
D9 x50030 G/C 530005 Em9 x79900 C/Em7 x34200
|
| d-0-2-4-5-7-9-11-12-14-16-17-19-20-23-24
B-0-2-3-5-7-8-10-12-14-15-17-19-20-22-24 G-0-2-4-5-7-9-11-12-14-16-17-19-20-23-24 D-0-2-4-6-7-9-11-12-14-16-18-19-21-23-24 A-0-2-4-5-7-9-11-12-14-16-17-19-21-23-24 D-0-2-4-5-7-9-11-12-14-16-17-19-20-23-24 |
Now let's end by popping some hermonics, (Yes, they do sound good
with this tuning.) Try this.
(MP3
example)
| d-12h-----12h------12h-----12h-------12h-----12h-----
B-----12h--------------12h---------------12h--------- G-------------12h--------------12h---------------12h- d-7h-------------------------------------------------
d-12h-----12h------12h-----12h-------12h-----12h-----
d-7h-------12h---------------------------------------
