| heh, I liked it, alot. No, I have not read the book (perhaps for the better), but i wasn't expecting it to be as it was.. I was pleasently suprised It was the most random thing I've seen since Napolean Dynamite. I have found myself quoting it, which is amazing since i never quote movies. Marvin was teh_best. .but yes, this is a half-baked movie review, but i suggest all to go see it. |

| I really enjoyed it and I haven't read the book. I though it was funny.
I found the Pres annoying but I assume you were meant to. I didn't think it had too much American in it and this is coming from a English comedy fan like The Office, Red Dwarf, Monty Python, The Sketch Show, Deadringers etc.
I am planning reading the book sometime cause I did have the feeling the book would be even funnier. |

The Bugblatter beast of Traal scene pissed me off too. They didn't even explain how stupid the beast was.
Like I said above, when the Guide was explaining things, it was pretty funny. The beginning scene with the dolphins was funny. The only really funny add-on to the movie apart from the book - in my opinion - was the part when whenever someone had an idea, they would get hit with a BBQ spatula thingee.

| Everyone who disliked the movie can bugger off. I loved it, and I'm the biggest H2G2 fan I know. Also, the two people I saw it with, who had never read the books, also loved it. I thought they did an excellent job translating the book's humour into the visual humour of the movie. You have to understand that written humour doesn't work in a movie. Of course they had to change it. I thought Mos Def did an excellent job. The love story that was added in was just fine.
Too much America? What?
In any case, I thought it was hilarious. |

| Mos Def was an AMAZING surprise. When I saw him in the opening credits, I was very skeptical. I was impressed by the end. |

It flopped on the whole Deep Thought...totally killing the comic timing and buildup of that sequence. And this happened with virtually every other sequence in the movie. And then there was that retarded love story. The fact that one of the funnier parts in the movie was a simple slapstick gag of people getting hit in the face with spatulas is really indicative of how dumbed down this movie is, and any HTHG fan should dislike it intensely, for all its visual accomplishments and acting highlights. | You don't have the right to tell me what I should and should not dislike.
In any case, I have been a rabid Douglas Adams fan for many years, I've read the trilogy (in five parts) many times, and I happen to think they did a fine job with the movie. Admittedly, I wish they had done a better job with Deep Thought, but I don't think it was awful. The comic timing seemed fine to me as well.
No, the dialogue that is in the books would not work well in a movie. It would be overly wordy and a lot of the humour would be lost. It works just fine in the books, but film is a completely different medium. Visual comedy works far better than verbal comedy in film. That is why slapstick works so well in film.
Considering the fact that Douglas Adams himself added the love story into the screenplay, I don't see why you're making such a big deal about it. |

| I finally got to go see this yesterday. I didn't think the movie was horrible, but it wasn't great either. It was worth about what I paid to get in but not much else. It had some funny parts, but I was saddened by a lot of the funny parts of the book were gone. I like the way they did the guide though. It looked pretty good. |
