Yes, this is true.

If there was an ill smiley, it would be a boy. A girl smiley would never throw up in front of other people.

...just because that's what they look like to me. (Not that a girl can't use a boy smiley, or vice versa.)

I tend to refer to the smiley as a "him", simply because he doesn't look like a girl. You know when you draw stick people, and you give the boy stick person a plain smiley head, but you give the girl stick person some hair (or lips, or eyelashes)?
