| Women and the Enlightenment? The question on one of my midterms (women and gender in modern Europe) read:
Did women have an Enlightenment? Why/why not?
One of my friends says yes, because it was a movement with a profound effect on society, which women are a part of.
One of my friends says no, because it was mainly an intellectual movement, which women were not really allowed to participate in at the time.
I ultimately argued no, but I think it's a very interesting question. Either that, or a complete misuse of the term "Enlightenment."
I'd be interested to hear everyone's answers to this question. |
