Should Public Land Exist?

...or would it be better if all land was privatized? Would we be drilling in Alaska if private interestes held ANWR?

No, gives too much power to the wealthy. My ideal country is not a plutocracy. I also don't like tories.

Yes. The private interests who want oil have more money than the private interests who want to preserve Alaska.

Of course, this is the same reason why we are drilling in Alaska now -- the private interests in favor are giving more money to Bush's campaign than the interests against it.

Wow. The privatization of all land is a scary thing, I think.

It'd be awful. The government would have to rent/lease all the land for schools and roads and other such utilities, which would mean that certain private citizens would have control of a lot of things and be able to charge exportant prices of the government, whcih means that the poor citizens would have to pay more tax to use the road etc, and thus end up poorer as usual.

Uh, no. For basically the same reason Qingu gave. But I'm not exactly a libertarian, so maybe you were looking for answers from someone whose answer wouldn't be so obvious....

I strongly support public lands for preservation of natural resources.
