Hey there,
I thought I'd give you my Testimony, so here it goes.
My Testimony The Beginning
The whole journey of me becoming a Christian started when I was 4. As you could probably guess that’s when I started going to school, and unfortunately that’s when the very problematic hardships began for me.
7 Quick Facts That Paint A Picture Of What My Life Has Been Like- I’ve been punched in the stomach with Brass Knuckles / Knuckle Dusters 7 times.
- I’ve nearly had my throat slit twice.
- The people that called themselves my best friends beat me up day in day out.
- One of my friends threw me off some stairs and I’ve now got a scar on my left knee because of it.
- I’ve got a scar on my left elbow off where a so-called friend threw a brick at me, which just say hit me.
- I’ve got a scar that goes down quite a bit of my right leg off where someone I used to consider a best friend got a knife that you use to cut clay in art, and slashed down that particular part of my leg.
- I started sniffing solvents at the age of 11 to help me cope with life, which didn’t work; I didn’t stop doing it until I gave my life to Jesus at the age of 13.
The Day That I Became A Christian
There was an Easter campaign on at Bethany Christian Centre (In Houghton) on that week. My mam persuaded to come across to it, on the Thursday (which on this particular year was my mam's birthday) of that week I put my faith in Jesus. The story behind it was that God revealed himself to me, and told me that I needed him because I needed to get my life sorted out, and he told me that the only that I could do it effectively was for me to put my faith in him. So I put my faith in him and he’s totally turned my life around since then.
My Baptism
At that particular point in time I was going through what I call a spiritual downer, I looked in my bible in an attempt to get back into the flow of reading the bible, and the verse I saw was the verse telling us to get Baptised in Matthew 28. I instantly thought is this really for me NOW, so I went away for a bit to get my head around what that verse was saying, then went back and opened my bible up again and it was exactly the same verse in Matthew 28 that I saw. It felt at that point in time that Jesus was serious about me getting baptised, so I did what we wanted me to do, and got baptised on April 6th 2003, which was the day after my older brothers birthday on that particular year.
More Recent Times
Even though a lot of my heart is still based at Bethany Christian Centre in Houghton because of it being the place where I became a Christian and getting baptised there. I felt that God wanted me to move to Bethany City Church when all of the planning to plant this church got underway. I firmly believe that he wants to work full-time in Youth-Ministry so I came to this church to get some experience of working with young people under my belt as well as the fact that the Youth Cell Group here is the same group of people that I’ve grown up with over the 17 years of my life.
Conclusion
This story of some young kid living life on the rocks 24-7, to becoming a man who most of his Non-Christian friends say is literally obsessed with Jesus, does not happen overnight, it’s a gradual process that occurs, but I can say that this process that I’ve been through is worth it, because Jesus has protected me in a way that no-one else has been able to.
Well that's pretty much it, I personally think that it's great to share our Testimonies because there's nothin that non-christian young people listen to more than our Testimony (in my findings anyway). Being a Christian is so cool.
