Gospel Music?

Lately I've been gettting.... well bored with the stuff that's out there. Slowly and gradually the P&W songs sound the same. The same chord progressions and images are used.

This lead me to look at gospel music. I think that's what you'd call that type of music. I mean the music that you hear in the south at predominately black churches. If I'm wrong someone correct me but I'm sure most people know what I mean. I'm not looking to introduce in into the service for the rest of the congregation but something to broaden my horizons as a musician.

Can anyone recomend any listening material?

I would recommend Israel Houghton's music. Two favorites of mine are "You Are Good" and "All About You" Very different from the typical worship songs with all the same progression types, however those two songs are very useful for congregational worship as well.

Try amazing grace old school blues style(basicly a 12 bar in 6/8)...it doesn't get much more gospel then that.

The Reggie Saddler family. My friend who's a minister in NC is very close to Reggie. They are a spirit filled group.

Also look into Southern Gospel Music. That's my genre of music. I grew up on it. Very good stuff there. I can recommend you many groups in SG music.

Well, famous groups would be The Gaither Vocal Band, The Cathedrals, The Kingsmen (now The Carolina Boys, I think), The Hoppers, Brian Free and Assurrance, Goldcity.

I cna give you more. Those are just quartets. There are also some awesome trios out there.
