| Sunday Bloody Sunday I love this song but have wondered at it's meeting, what was bloody sunday? Was it a real date? I feel stupid, and may just be forgetting something but refresh my memory if it is a real date.

| Bloody Sunday is an Irish Tragedy that actually represents two incidents. I don't have my book in front of me, so I'm a little hazy, but one of the events was a group of rebels opening fire on civilians at a football (soccer) game, killing nearly a dozen. Bloody Sunday is also representative (sp?) of the day Jesus was crucified (hence the lyrics "to claim the victory Jesus won on Sunday Bloody Sundaaaaaay!")
Hope that helps. Any more questions?
-Nick

| "Broken battles under chidren's feet
Bodies strewn across the dead end street
But I won't heed the battle call
It puts my back up, puts my back up against the wall"
I think it has something to do with outreach for Africa/Asia or something. I could be wrong though.

| I'm pretty sure the ' Bloody Sunday' they are referring to was on the 30th January 1972 when British soldiers opened fire on a Civil Rights march in Londonderry killing 14.

| Also, Bloody Sunday was an event that happened in Russia in 1905. Orthodox Priest Father George Gapon organized a peaceful march of workers who called for reforms in wages and hours, and those that wanted to have a constitution and reforms to overhaul an inefficient, corrupt government. They walked carrying pictures of the czar, whom they affectionately called "Little Father", singing hymns, and chanting prayers. Towards the czars Winter Palace they walked. The czar only saw a crowd of protestors in the distance, and fled, ordering in soldiers. The soldiers shot into the religous procession, killing hundreds.
That could be part of it....but the British situation would have been much more relevant to Bono and the band when they wrote the song, so who knows? |

| That song is just brilliant! Touches me everytime I hear it.
I think the chorus of Sunday Bloody Sunday also represents the people in Africa dying. Either that or maybe that is just the verses.
