That's funny... that's my definition of a "dating relationship".

How so? I'm totally baffled by this comment.

Courting:
Hang out with family... family goes to bed... you and your significant other are now alone... Hey... look... the same temptation.

Umm... isn't that what dating is? I date a girl... I see what she's like... then I decide if I would be able to live a lifetime with her. If the answer is "no" then she's history. I'm sure "courting" is the exact same.

Different Times, Different Terms

Say you were going to date somebody....Except you are the type of person who doesn't want to be kissed until they get married and you are saving sex for marriage. Isn't this the same thing as courting? I'm a pretty modest person, so I never really worried about the whole cvd when I first heard of it.
But now that I'm older, I'm kind of curious because I want to do what's right.
So my assumption has been that courting is just a Christian's word for dating. Is this correct or incorrect? Thanks!!!

Dating is just another term for courting. With courting though, I get a proper, romantic picture. With dating, anything could be happening, especially in today's setting if you are not practicing biblical teachings.

With "dating" I get a proper, romantic picture. I feel like some sort of a geek by using the term "courting". (notice I said "I" because that is how "I" feel... I'm not saying that those who like the term are geeks)

And with "courting" {just like "dating" (since they're the same thing)} anything could be happening... especially in today's setting if you're not practicing biblical teachings.

Okay, I think I understand better. Thanks so much for all of the opinions ya'll have helped me with. Although I still have a couple of years before I can even think about starting a relationship, I think I know now what I needed to know.

I'm sorry, I'm not understanding, what is the biblical teaching behind how to find a spouse? I ask this because I am completely ignorant of its existence.

really, dear... your father is supposed to send his servant across the country till he finds a suitable bride, give her family gifts, and then bring her back to get married. sheesh.

I took that to mean biblical teaching, like...

No sex before marriage, no lust, honoring parents...

Just biblical teaching related to the subject, not the formulaic approach a lot of people use.

Not trying to be a pain...

I know you don't mean to be a pain (^_^). I'm just asking for nghthawk's thoughts because I have heard people claim they have biblical evidence for "courting" over "dating" then talk about things like what Dana said. Which as we all know was just a cultural example and not the rules of how to go about it.
