Hahaha. Maybe that's true in general..but they're not alll bad though. I know several young marines in our church who are godly christian young men. I have been very impressed with their treatment of girls in general. So there are a few great christian guys out there even if they are in the armed services. But..it doesn't sound like this guy is more than a nominal christian at this point. You should definitely contact him and try to ask him where he is in his walk with God. It's soo important and will be even more so as you get older. As the guys said, wait and see what the next couple of years have in store for you both. If it's God's will...it'll happen.

My dad was in the air force and he ended up better after he joined, so I know not to really listen to it. It seems very prejudice.
