Avoid playing with the cord. It's very distracting. Don't point your mic at a monitor. It will result in feedback. Sing into the end of the mic and not at its side. And pay attention to blend if you are singing with others. The monitors will help, but keeping your ear tuned to the natural voice is beneficial.

Heya,

Most people dislike the sound of their voice, at first. The more you listen to yourself the more you'll get used to hearing your voice - then you won't dislike it so much. Unless you sound like BoB Dylan, of course.

ya i hate how my voice sounds thru a mic right now because it's new, and different from how i tried to make it sound acoustically. Also i think i'm still nervous.

i kinda have the same problem. like i can't really worship sometimes outloud unless if im leading and/or if the drums are beating, cuz i get shy of hearing my own voice..iono i guess it takes time. more importantly, let God take over your worship, once he dose this, you will worship holding nothing back and with all your heart, its good stuff. but i guess that's for worship.

Be comfortable with your technique, be comfortable with the mic...and you will worry about what you sound like less.

Heya,

The more you hear your voice, the less you'll hate it. Just keep it up, after time it won't bother you.

Ill send you my sound man, I can never hear myself in the monitors and it drives me nuts. Although my church is pretty loud and you cant hear yourself without amplification. One big advantage of the mic is you don't have to sing hard. I don't think my voice would make it through our 35-45min worship serveice and then singing backup after I'm done leading.

If you don't like the sound of your voice, do a session with your sound guy and figure out what is good Eq for your voice. I have found that my voice sounds warmer in my head than through amplification. I have had to work on ditching the flimsy Michael W. Smith sound I naturaly have and didn't know I had untill I heard my voice amplified.

Play with the eq at the board if it sounds to pitchy.

hey there!!

Dont know if you still want some more advice...
I've been in our worship team a few years now and at first I was freaked out when i had to sing with a mic.But I found the more I did it, the easier it became. The only bad thing was that it took a REAL long time before I got used to hearing my voice.Anyway, what helped me was that I had my mom and sister nearby to tell me the moment I messed up in some way. This really helped coz I love them and they love me and so i trusted what they said and worked at it in a loving environment.

What also helped was that we practised together before church for one or two hours, so it was just the worship team with all the equipment set up and nobody else there. This helped because it meant I could hear myself and work on whatever was wrong without the stress of 'outside' people listening and judging.

But now I have a problem. This year I've started singing and playing my guitar, but I find that sometimes when I sing I mess up my playing rhythm.Any tips to help me?
