| South Africa missionary.... Greetings South Africans!!!
My name is Daniel Crowe....I've been a reader of the threads at CGR for about 2 years, but, as you can tell by my post count, I don't really post that much :-)
So I haven't been on recently but I noticed this section about Africa, and the number of South African's on here. I am from South Carolina, United States, but my heart if from South Africa. God has called me there to missions, and in the summer of 2004 I spent 2 months in the triangle from Pretoria (where I lived) to Johannesburg to Gabarone, Botswana. I am a part of Teen Missions International, which has base in Pretoria. We were able to see 218 South African's and Botswanans come to Christ this summer!
I will be coming again to the area this summer.....but my team is going to Windhoek, Nambia primarily. Hopefully after I finish school at my Bible college I will be able to work full time in the ministry in South Africa.
But, I am very very curious about one thing.........does anybody know what city the nuclear reactor in Pretoria is in? I believe it was on the opposite side of Pretoria from Johannesburg. That is close to where we stayed, but I was never able to find out the exact name of where we lived. Also, I'd like to learn Swana or Africaans if anybody has anything that would help me out learning those languages......
In Christ,
Daniel Crowe

| Howzit.
I think you're thinking of Kooberg, which is north of Capetown. It's the only Nuclear power plant in SA. (the rest are all coal powered)
Namibia is a nice place, though the one thing I remember when we were visiting there a while back that the people in the more desert parts would have given any amount of money for food. They've got bottle stores a plenty, but no food stores.
Also if you're going to Windhoek, don't go swimming at Hardap Dam. The water reeks of guano from all the birds living there.
I can help you a little with Afrikaans, but I can't help you with Tswana.
When next you're in SA, see if you can come down to Kwazulu-Natal (it's like a different country to other parts of SA...more and more of SA are facing water restrictions, we having to deal with the occasional flood).
Africa is a beautiful land (it's a shame to see how so many "politicians" are wanting to ruin it)
Our youth group joined a youth camp up in Zambia in December (sadly Tamryn and I couldn't afford to go) and they had a huge impact with the kids there. Africa is desperately needing God.

| I was in Johannesburg in August of '03 on a mission trip, as I've told Raphael about. Are you talking about normal nuclear reactors or the ones outside of Johannesburg that are painted with murals and whatnot? I remember seeing those on our drive out to Sharpville/Sharpeville/Sharpsville (don't remember the spelling) from Jo'Burg. When I went it was through a group in the Florida section of Jo'Burg called Multi Ministries International, which is now called Revival & Missions International. I've got a copy of the Gospel of John in Afrikaans and somewhere I wrote down a bunch of common words as well. Where are you from in South Carolina? I live in the western part in North Augusta, as you may notice.

| Well....it looks like nuclear reactors :-) might just be some type of energy plant....I pulled out a card that had my address on it there.....our mailbox was in Pyramid, outside of Pretoria.....and our base where we stayed was in Vasfontein. Anybody here familiar with those places? Also....is there any place where I can get a South African newspaper online? Thanks.
Brent, I live in St. George, at the intersection of I-95 and I-26, but I go to school in Greenville. |

| hi everyone,
I'm not from Africa, but I lived in Angola and Mozambique for 8 years, so I think I can claim something from these nationalities
i'm 15 now, and this summervacation i went back to angola. we drove from johannesburg throu botswana and Namibia to angola. and back.. to Durban, 'cause that's where the chruch was to whom we would give the car. they will use it for missionairy trips to lesotho. So now I feel quite connected to this work.
good luck and God bless your work and study Daniel! I speek dutch (wich is very simelar to Afrikaans) but I think you can better learn it from a real south african good luck with that! |
