Regarding Marian doctrine, in fact, similarly to last time. But this time, my research is setting off even MORE alarm bells than last time (if that were possible)! Not only the matter of Immaculate Conception that I've never liked the idea of, but in my journeys through cyber-space I discovered a little-mentioned doctrine the Catholcs hold that gives Mary the title of "Spouse of the Holy Spirit". This same title, apparently, also gives her the right to call herself "Deity". Ahhh... last I checked, a deity was a GOD, well it's official - Catholics now view Mary as a vicarious goddess because she's apparently MARRIED to the Holy Spirit. Couple that with "Co-redemptress and Mediatrix of All Graces blah blah blah" and the fact they have Mejugore (spelling? never knew how to spell that place) as like the Catholic version of Mecca, millions of people flocking there, why? To see Mary of course! Pfftt, who needs Jesus, I'm a Catholic I have MARY! Blech :S (they really need more emoticons here, like this one, and a sick one, among various other ones)
I'm getting out of here while I still hold onto threads of orthodoxy! Although, I won't be going to Good Shepard until they have Sunday evening services, instead I may be going to St Luke's Anglican Church. But yes, the Catholic Church has drawn the line with me, just remind me of that in case I ever get the urge to go back there.
God Bless

When it comes to the Catholic Church, you really need to know the official teaching. Don't leave the Church over what a bunch of wackos believe. The Church is full of people who believe crazy stuff that is in fact condemned by the Magisterium. We need good people to
stay in the Church and fight the creeping heresies, not bail-out on us when the going gets tough.
As far as Mary being the Spouse of the Holy Spirit: This is an honorary title. It doesn't mean that Mary is actually married to the Holy Spirit. It comes from Luke's Gospel. Mary conceived Jesus in her womb by the power of the Holy Spirit. That makes Mary the spouse of the Holy Spirit. It's not meant to be taken literally, and it's certainly not a doctrine of the Faith. I don't know why anyone would leave the Church over something so inconsequential as a Marian title.
Also, nobody that I know thinks of Mary as a deity. I'm not saying that there aren't some nuts out there who do. I met a woman in a Boston T-station (Government Center Station) who called herself, "Mother Moreno." She said that she was a mystic and she had her followers handing out flyers in the station. What a
whack-job she was! You can't judge the Catholic Church by the crazies that call it home though.
Our Lord promised St. Peter that the gates of Hell would never prevail against the Church. He did not, however, say that the gates of Hell would not
try to prevail against the Church. The Church
has always and
will always have to deal with heretics within its midst. But don't let the heretics turn you into a schismatic. A lot of the language that you are objecting to is not theological or didactic language. It is devotional and poetic language spoken out of love for Mary - it's not official Church teaching.
