Question Best Bass Pak?

I'm planning on learning the electric bass, and I'm trying to decide whether I should get the Ibanez bass package,(http://www.music123.com/Ibanez-Jumps...e-i27209.music) or the Squier bass package(http://www.music123.com/Squier-Bass-Pak-i136272.music)... I heard from a friend that Ibanez basses are only very good if you get the $900+ ones...:-P What package would you guys suggest for a begginner? I don't wanna spend more then like, $300..

God Bless,

Of those two, I'd pick Ibanez. I will tell you, if you buy those peices seperatly from www.rondomusic.com you'd be much better off. That is, if you don't care not to buy "name brand" stuff.

Here's the rundown of what you could get

SX Jazz $120
or
SX P $110

with

Peavey microbass $116
Gig bag $16
stand $10

Right there you're looking at $266. If you email Kurt who works at rondo, I'm sure he will hook you up with a cable and a strap.

If you go with that package right there you're going to have a great starter package that will kill the Squier and the Ibanez. Plus you're going to pay less.

If you're new to bass, you're probally going to be skeptical to buying an "off-brand", but trust me I have one of their basses with a few mods that will kill any bass that costs less than $500.

You could put together a lot better package than you could ever buy pre-assembled. Here are my suggestions:

* SX Jazz Bass from Rondo Music - $119.99
These basses cannot be beat for a budget bass, especially a starter bass. These are said to be better than most of the cheaper Made in Mexico Fender basses. This is a Jazz bass, which is the style and not the type of music it's suited for. Jazz basses are very versatile and won't pigeonhole you into one particular sound.

* Behringer Ultrabass BX-300 30 watt Combo Amp - $119.99
Behringer used to get a lot of flack for their spotty quality control, but they've really shaped up and are producing some great products now. I personally own their 300 watt amp head and it sounds awesome and works flawlessly. This would give you a huge step up to 30 watts compared to the 10 watts or so that most of the bass pak amps come with.

OR THIS AMP

* Fender Bassman 25 Combo - $149.99
The Fender Bassman series has been around for decades and is still a quality line of amps. 25 watts here and some great reviews to read.

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/...se_pid/480644/

* Musician's Friend Elite Series Bass Guitar Gig bag - $19.99
Don't have one of these myself, but I bought one of these for a friend of mine when I got her an acoustic guitar so she could learn to play for a mission trip. Very well-constructed and almost a tweed-like material that's thick and well-padded.

If the strap in the package is a big deal then you can get any number of straps for less than 5 bucks each at Musician's Friend. Picks you can buy locally or just use a credit card or something if you actually want a pick for playing bass.

That puts you between $260 and $290 depending on the amp you choose and that's a whole lot better of a package than any of the starter paks.

**EDIT**: Wouldn't you know it that Beav would have the same idea I did and be typing it up as I gathered all this info. heh

So, I'm looking at this: http://www.rondomusic.net/sjb62.html, bk black, this: http://www.rondomusic.net/microbass.html, this: http://www.rondomusic.net/bb600.html, and this: http://www.rondomusic.net/ags80.html.. You said email Kurt, would that stuff cost more, or do you mean he'd send them for free? That's a total of 290.. saving me 10$ and 'tis better.. How's that look? I'd be able to use that bass for hard-rock, right?

I'm guessing if you email Kurt and tell him that you're just starting and you're trying to find the best deal and that you've been reffered to Rondo. See if he can get you strap and cable, or if he can cut a little off the shipping since you're buying so much. Never hurts to try. He's a cool guy and helpful

Forgot you're other question...

That bass will deffintly suit you fine for any kind of music. The "jazz" bass is used in litereally every genre, so you can't really go wrong.

I know peavey ones are solid and cheap if you get it froma dealer...the basic 112 was $200 and someones sellin a 150 watt 15 inch one on talkbass for 300 shipped...but thats a little overkill.

I havnt relaly heard of douglas for amps, but I'd say stick with peavey, if worst came to worst they've got a 5 year warrentee...
