Do you use a filter in your pipe? I have since buying my own pipe, but the other day I thought that I'd try it without one. The bowl smoked a little better and a tad more evenly (which has never really been a problem for me anyway), but it didn't feel like there was enough resistance in the stem for me, like I was just sucking air through a straw instead of puffing. | I don't use a filter. I used to have this metal thing at the end of the stem, but it wasn't doing much, so I took it out, after some advice from this thread.
Perhaps you need to pack the bowl a bit tighter to increase resistance? Quote: |

why do you like smoking? | I love the flavours, it's relaxing (much the same as deep breathing), and it can be a communal experience. Often when my mates come around, we'll all have a cigar. |

why do you like smoking? | Tobacco has a unique flavor, and a good flavored tobacco tastes and smells just great after a long day at work or class. The puffing or holding in--but not inhaling--of quality tobacco is an absolutely splendid way to relax with a good book.

why do you like smoking? | Because I love the way it tastes.
And most of my really good/fun/interesting conversations have taken place with some cigarettes and some beer.
It's also relaxing.

However, I have nothing to compare it to. So all I can say that pipe smoking is meant to be enjoyed. If you enjoy it more with the filter, then leave it in. |

| I don't know how many Camel Light smokers we have reading this thread... but I'll say this anyway.
Recently I bought a pack (two actually... buy one get one free) of Camel Light Ninety Nines. These things are 1/16 of an inch less than 4 inches. I'm not sure if these things are actually longer than the 100's... but they look like they are much longer.
If I remember correctly, the size of a King cigarette (most people smoke kings) is 80mm.
And if I remember correctly, the size of a 100 is 100mm.
So... if I am correct, then I think it would be safe to assume that the Ninety Nines are only 99mm. But they look so much longer than a pack of 100s
Can anyone help clear this up for me?

Now I don't use them because I find that I get much more flavor without them and I no longer do the same job.
To answer the question concerning packing: pack your pipe just about as tightly as a cigeratte. Keep it down from the top a little and you will get a more even light. The problem is when you get an uneven light in the beginning. It leaves part of the tobacco unlit and when you relight it only lights the portion that has not burned. So every time you light it you get an uneven light. It goes out frequently because it is only burning a small portion to begin with.

| Ok... I figured out the answer to my own question.
100's are 100mm
99's are 99mm
Kings are 80mm
72's are 72mm
However, Marlboro 27's are not 27mm.
(however, I hate Marlboro. Especially the Marlboro Lights)

#837 | | Puts the sexy in dyslexia | Is anyone familiar with Sierra Nevada Pale Ale? I remember hearing something about it, but I don't know what, and ended up opting for a sixer of Newcastle. But I don't feel like I see Sierra Nevada around that often. Is it worth trying? And where is it from? |

The Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. website says it's brewed in Chico, CA. I might try it sometime. I see they also make a porter, and I do enjoy a good porter every now and then. |

| This thread is great. I've been lurking around it for a while, but now that I'm 21 I can add to the beer part of it.
Mmmmmhmmm. Beer.
So far I've only bought and drank Guinness and Great Lakes Brewing Company Dortmunder Gold. Anyone else familiar with Irish stouts along the lines of Guinness? Recommend any?
What about Dortmunder?
And specifically Great Lakes Brewing Company? What else of theirs is good?
I've been having the Guinness by the bottle - very good, but just not the same. A few nights ago I had it on tap at a restauraunt... and...it was amazing. I wanted to pee my pants I was so excited. |
