The ale is made in England... so I'm sure if it's here in Texas you'd be able to find in in NC.
And if you can't find it there... I found a few places where you could order some online.
Happy hunting.
Good luck.

#814 | | Puts the sexy in dyslexia | An unpleasant smoke I just brought out Dr. Grabow today for the first time in atleast 6 months. It was frustrating. First, I had no matches, and used a lighter, making my smoke taste, well, like crap. Not that I was smoking anything but some Captain Black that I bought last summer when I ran out of my good stuff and didn't feel like making the journey to the tobacco shop. I've been smoking cloves for so long that I am in the habit of inhaling, and boy did I have an embarrassing coughing fit when I tried to light that thing! In fact, I was halfway through the bowl before I got the hang of not drawing the smoke deep into my lungs...
Altogether unpleasant. |

Altogether unpleasant. | Smoking Captain Blackguard (I mean Black) is not much of a proposition whether you inhale or not. It'd be worth a trip to a tobacconist (within reasonable distance)to get some real pipeweed. I was a cigarette smoker till 1987 then I quit for 8 years till I took up the pipe. Old habits die hard and I inhaled on a pipe after 8 years without cigatettes. I thought a lung came out my nose it was so bad Get some good 'backy soon.

#816 | | MARRIED!!! | I really do think it's an advantage to me that I didn't smoke cigarettes before smoking cigars and my pipe. A couple of my friends who I smoke with also smoke cigarettes, and it's just a force of habit that they inhale. My previously non-smoking buddies have no trouble at all with it.
Speaking of smoking, the night before the Superbowl I was smoking some pork outside in my home-made smoker. I thought I'd have a bowl of nightcap and share a smoke with my smoker. I really think I need to work on my packing technique because it kept going out really quickly. I must have used 15 matches total, excluding the first one. At first I thought it was because I was tamping too much so I held back, but it didn't make a difference. I also noticed that the tobacco wasn't really burning evenly. There was only one spot, somewhat in the middle, about 6mm diameter that was glowing. Am I packing it too tightly?
Next time I smoke, I'll try packing it a touch more loosely. |

Its much more likely that you are packing it too loosely. think about it, the closer one piece of tobacco is another piece, the easier it is for the burn to be transferred from the initial piece to the next. Pack it as tight as you can get it, try that, and if its not better, loosen it up a bit next time. Thats probably the best way to go about it.

| I pack my pipe pretty tightly, and I've never had trouble inhaling through it. Pack it tightly, but for the love of good tobacco don't tamp it until it's just a wad of wasted leaf.
Also, when you light, move your match slowly and evenly around the bowl so that all of the tobacco gets lit--it's kind of like rotating a cigar when you light it. Once you've done that, hold it over the center, and everything should light up and stay lit.

| So, to revive this thread, what is everyone's favorite beers? Let's divide it into two categories: mass-produced and local.
My favorite cheap mass-produced beer would have to be Yuengling Black and Tan. If I've only got $5, I can pick up a six-pack of beer that I actually enjoy drinking. I'm also a big fan of Newcastle
I'm quite partial to dark beers, and my favorite local beer is Highland's Tasgall Ale. With Duck-Rabbit and Highland, North Carolina boasts some exceptional breweries.

| Pipe smokers (especially those of you who use Dr. Grabow's fine products ):
Do you use a filter in your pipe? I have since buying my own pipe, but the other day I thought that I'd try it without one. The bowl smoked a little better and a tad more evenly (which has never really been a problem for me anyway), but it didn't feel like there was enough resistance in the stem for me, like I was just sucking air through a straw instead of puffing.

why do you like smoking? | I haven't smoked much since I gave my pipe to my old roommate last semester, but I love the aroma of pipe tobacco. It's much the same reason that someone would, say, burn incense, or perhaps wear a certain type of cologne.
