| Which explains why it tasted like mosquito spray.

| I wouldn't shoot vodka if I were you. That doesn't really make sense to me. If you're going to drink vodka, get Tito's and make a mixed drink with it. A screwdriver (w\orange juice) would be fine.
Gin makes a much better martini, in my opinion. My favorite is a very dry martini with Hendrick's gin. You can do a twist but definitely no olives, because they don't exactly harmonize with Hendrick's. It also makes a great gin & tonic, as long as you garnish with a cucumber instead of a lime. And I even drink Hendrick's neat.
As for ales and lagers... "Ale" is not a style of beer; it's a really, really broad category. It's sort of like saying that you're reading "non-fiction" -- could be sports stats, could be a biography, could be a math textbook, could be a brownie recipe. In this case, you're talking about a particular kind of Belgian Ale, a Tripel. A Tripel will be yellow/gold in color, fairly sweet, and high in alcohol. You can find some good Tripels from Allagash, St. Bernardus, and Unibroue (called La Fin Du Monde).
If you like a Tripel, here are some other kinds of beer that you might like: Hefeweizen (try Spaten's Franziskaner or Paulaner) or Witbier (Hoegaarden, Allagash White, St Bernardus White). Some other lighter-colored beers are India Pale Ales (try Stone IPA), Pale Ales (Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, Fuller's London Pride), Extra Special Bitters (Fuller's ESB).
If you want a different kind of Belgian beer, try a Quadrupel. The St. Bernardus Abt 12, Rochefort 10, and Ommegang Three Philosophers are all truly amazing. A Belgian Strong Dark Ale, such as Unibroue's Trois Pistoles or the Delirium Nocturnum or Noel, is similar. For a very very different kind of Belgian, try La Duchesse de Bourgogne, a Flemish Red Ale.
There are definitely some lagers worth trying. I'd definitely recommend a Doppelbock, such as the Ayinger Celebrator, Paulaner Salvator, or Spaten Optimator. Another enjoyable lager is the amber Oktoberfest (try Paulaner, Ayinger, or even Samuel Adams).
Well, that's it for now. Enjoy! |

Well, that's it for now. Enjoy! | Wow, thanks a lot, I think i'll copy and paste this to a document on my computer, so I can refer back to it in times to come.
My roommate (well, landlord) came home in the middle of the night last night (3:30) with four drunk friends. I was kept awake until almost 6:00. I've never been so ticked off. I went to the fridge this morning (or at noon) and found they drank all my Warsteiner beer!
I guess my landlord felt bad, and before I woke up, he had already gone and bought me a 6 pack of Newcastle Brown Ale. So, we'll see what this stuff tastes like. I havn't seen it mentioned yet.

| I am a massive fan of local Winnipeg brewery Half Pints. Great, great stuff. Not something I would drink with food, I don't think, but good pub beer, or sitting around with friends beer.
Edit:
Not sure where you like in SK you live, but if you're in regina you can get it on tap at O'Hanlon's Pub and Beer Bros.
The website also says
"Welcome Saskatchewan to the Half Pints Family
Watch for our Humulus Ludicrous in bottles at The Bushwakker. Our specialty beers will be available at Willow Park (South Albert) shortly."
But not living in SK, I don't know what that means. |

But not living in SK, I don't know what that means. | Interesting, I live in Saskatoon, and there are quite a bit of pubs and bars around, I'll have to keep an eye out.
I know Pilsner is the beer that every Saskatchewanian drinks, but I actually quite enjoy it, though it's almost too easy to drink.
Is Boxer beer a Mannitoban beer? Or is that Alberta? I've never tried it, but I hear it's making it's way into Saskatchewan.

Pilsner isn't bad. When our band is in SK we drink it because we feel like we should hah.
I've never seen or even heard of Boxer, so it's probably Alberta.
I have a hard time remembering what beer is Canadian beer, so I just looked up a list.
Also check out Sleemans Honey Brown (loove this beer), Rickards Red and Alexander Keiths. They are all quite good and should be found just about anywhere.
Rickards White is pretty good too, but its more of a summery beer. |
