| Never seen a commercial of them.
So, my first sip I thought "this taste like s***" but I gave it some more sips and it 'got better'. Actually the initial taste reminded me of a medicine I used to take when my heart was undergoing testing a long time ago. I just had to get used to it at first, but by the end of the bottle I thought it was quite decent. I think I will enjoy it more and more as I drink the rest of them, because it seemed to keep tasting better.
So, overall, I was pleased with the taste, which doesn't mean anything, seeing as it is the only thing I have tasted.
Is there generally a big difference in taste from an average north american beer to an import like Red Stripe?
Another thing, it might sound like a stupid question, but will a drink taste different if it us drank straight from the bottle rather than poured into a glass? I was just wondering if the foam releases some sort of taste not present when drank out of the bottle.

#4577 | | Cool enough Administrator | It is higher quality than any of the typical North American lagers you will find, but if you look for craft brews, it is more comparable to them, I would say.
Every beer will taste different depending on what you drink it from, as well as what it came out of. I tend to like bottles and glasses equally for different reasons. |

So I went into the liquor store today to buy a 6 pack of Heineken (bottled), then I came across these real sweet looking bottles of Jamaican imported Lager, called Red Stripe. I thought "i've never talked to anyone that have said they've tried this, it might suck" but I decided to give it a try anyway.
I have never drank beer before, and I can proudly say I have never been intoxicated and don't ever plan on it. I'm excited to try it, and tonight I will. I wish I had a Cuban to go along with it, but alas, I am broke.
I didn't even get ID'd when I bought it, which I thought was strange, because I can't grow facial hair or anything. I often look rough, but I thought I looked quite young. I guess i'm getting old. | Good choice on steering clear of the Heiniken. That stuff is EASILY the worst tasting beer I've ever come across. I can't believe I actually paid money for one of those...
Also, as for cans, there really aren't a lot of "good" beers that come in cans. Bottles are used much more often for good beer because glass doesn't polute the flavor the way that aluminum does. |

| I don't like Heineken either. Red Stripe is one of the few beers I can enjoy with EVERYBODY, including my fiance. It's one of my favorite lagers. You can't beat the cool bottle, either. Looks like an old medicine bottle.
Good canned beer...I like the draught cans. Don't like Guiness, but it's a pretty popular one in cans.
For those of you who get any Sierra Nevada Brewery beers delivered to your area you should try Kellerweiz Hefeweizen. It's my favorite Hefeweizen so far. Tastes a lot like cloves and banana. |

| I had another Red Stripe today and I enjoyed it a lot more, it was really good. I'm going to want to drink them everyday.

| I had a Miller Genuine Draft today, I really enjoyed it. It was smoother than the Red Stripe.
Question, are most American beers that light? I think it was 4.7%. Just wondering because it is a common Canadian prejudice to make fun of American beer and how light they are.

| I could not like Hendrick's gin more. I like it in a chilled, very dry martini. I like it in a gin and tonic with a cucumber garnish. I even like it neat. |

| Had a Heineken today, I loved it! I really liked it a lot.
I almost bought a pack of some other German imported beer, I think i've seen the name mentioned here lately. I'll probably get it next time.

#4589 | | Cool enough Administrator | I had a Boddington's on Sunday. It was different. Very creamy. Beautiful head. I enjoyed it.
I also have some Dogfishhead 90 Minute in my fridge. I had one last week. Incredible stuff. |
