| I fear I may have/may be breaking my pipe in wrong. I'm not quite enjoying smoking it at the moment. I'm still getting a bit of what I perceive to be tongue bite. I'm not enjoying the flavour of the smoke either. I'm not 100% sure what it's supposed to taste like. The tobacco itself smells like vanilla, but the smoke tastes nothing like vanilla. I'm afraid I may not have cleaned it properly, and too much condensation/saliva has soaked into the wood. I don't know if my pipe is fully broken in yet. I think I may have to purchase a pre-broken in pipe or something, just so I'm able to understand what the smoke is supposed to taste like. There should be instructional videos or something. I shall perservere for a little while longer though. Oh, by the way I just had my 4th smoke, so, if this is normal or something at this point in time... it'd be greatly appreciated if you could let me know it gets better or how to fix it if it's not normal. |

It is the most common reason why people give it up. I should say that vanilla is a strong flavored tobacco and will have more bite than a more mild tobacco. Ask your tobacconist to reccomend a more mild blend or flavored one. As for breaking in your pipe, I don't think it is a problem. Four smokes is hardly enough to actually do the job. It might not be a bad idea to buy one pre- broken in. You also may be drawing too fast on it and causing it to get too hot. I have a tendency to do that myself. It will cause it to bite more and also make the taste stronger and less like the flavor. If you are enjoying it though hang in there. If you aren't then there is no shame in quitting.

I usually find the smell of the pipe smoke to be better than the taste (although I enjoy the taste very much). In other words... your vanilla tobacco won't taste like vanilla. My suggestion? Continue to try different tobaccos until you find one that tastes good to you. (don't just go by the smell... the smell can deceive you)

| Thanks for advice. After a little digging around on the net, the reviews at www.tobaccoreviews.com didn't give it a very high score. Aparantly the smell of the smoke is better than the taste in this one, and all the reviews have said it gives abit of tongue bite. I'm wondering though, with this having vanilla in it, would it have tainted my pipe, say if I want to smoke a different tobacco? And what tobacco would you recommend. I'm just looking for something mild, something that's a nice smoke.
Tobacconists are very few and very far between over here. |

| Reading through www.pipes.org and their forum, I think most people just keep it in an air-tight container.
I just had a rather enjoyable smoke. I think I like smoking inside better than outside. I can still faintly smell the smoke. It's not a very strong smell, but it's nice. The taste is yuck, but the smell is alright. I slowed down abit, and had to relight it a couple of times, I still had a bit of tongue bite, but not as much. I still want a change of tobacco though. Oh, and I managed one disfigured smoke ring. I'm still not sure on how to do them, but it was nice to be able to try without wind interfering |

I've smoked many different tobaccos in my pipe, and it's never messed with the taste. (at least I can't tell if it did) Quote: |

I found a place to buy it online ( HERE); however, I am not 100% sure this is the same one from Pipe World in Austin, Tx. It's only $2.50/bag(ounce maybe?) + S&H. So it's worth a shot. It's by far the best I've had so far... although, I am always up for trying another blend.

| Personally, I'm partial to the churchwarden style of pipes.
I quite like the look of this one: |

| I've been smoking a pack of Djarum Vanillas lately, and while they're not bad, I much prefer the Blacks. I'm curious about the Supers. How do they compare with Blacks? What are the differences? Is it worth trying out, or should I stick with what I know I like? |
