I wonder if someone can help me…
I’m thinking about getting a pipe. I’ve been smoking cigarettes for a few years, but a friend let me try a few drags off of his pipe and it was Nice! Does anybody have any good tips/suggestions for buying a pipe and choosing a good tobacco?

So I've been craving a cigar. I went to the local Mom'n'Pop tobacco shop, which I used to frequent. I decided to go with something different so the guy that worked there talked me into the strongest smoke they sell. It's a Partagas. It is darker than hell...

A sucky blend will be just that. It's debatable how much a pipe affects your smoke, I don't spend a ton on myne but I don't buy cheapies.

Believe it or not I did find a brand that Wal-Mart sells that's not too shabby for the price. (Dr. Grabow) I'd reccomend getting one as your first pipe because you may want to keep the habit or kick it after just a few puffs...

It takes a lot of work, you have to break in your pipe the first time you smoke it, that first smoke will be fairly strange flavored. I like to take honey, put it on my fingers, and coat the bowl at least 2 hours before the first smoke, it add's a sweeter flavor, not very noticeable, but it's nice.

Learning to pack one and keep it lit is a chore. Keep at it though.

If you haven't practiced, you wont remember. As for choosing a blend, go to a local tobaccanist if there is one near, one that's like a personal/small business (not a chain) and ask the people working there, they're usually happy to help.

the key to not having fuel taste from a zippo, is to light it and count to 3 before you light your smoke, it lets most of the fuely taste burn off the wick. for really strong stuff like cloves I don't worry about it, but with a cigar or a pipe, it's good practice.

I don't like lighters. Matches only!

I'd go matches only, but I always smoke outside. Do you have any idea how maddening it is to never be able to get something lit because right when you get a smoulder going the wind blows your light out? Hence my initial use of a zippo- it's wind-resistent, and turns out it keeps stuff lit better than something like a cheap butane lighter. Seriously. A gnet could blow those pieces of crap out.

Gentlemen, I think we have mutinied at last. I am looking and I don't see a single post about beer for quite some time.

Compared to a Romeo Y Julieta, every Partagas I've tried (including the robusto) has been lighter. There's some really nice flavours in the Partagas, but as far as power/strength/balls, I never really consider it to be stronger.

I had a Chimay (red label) last night. It was pretty good. It had an amazing aftertaste. Now I just need to try the blue and white labels.

Chimay is the finest stuff out there! I adore it. I haven't had any in a little bit (due to the price), I may treat myself next paycheck.
