Amen. And that is why I mentioned it. My dad and I bought it on DVD--in the special features, there's even a Canadian dictionary with all my favorite words and phrases! That movie is simply the best!

The Matrix - From a Christian point of view

I thought The Matrix was very thin on plot. But if you look at it from a Christian point of view it is truly magnificent, it is a parody of the Christian life. The plot was that machines had taken over the world and enslaved humans into thinking they were seeing, and doing things in the physical world, when they were actually living out their entire lives unaware that an external force was actually ruling their thoughts and actions. Just as Keanu was living in a shell of a world not knowing what powers were actually affecting his life, so do we also live in such a world. We walk through our lives not actually seeing the war for our souls, some never even being aware that it is going on.

(John 15:19 NASB) "If you were of the world, the world would love its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.

I also want to point out another refreshing parody. Remember how Keanu and the other "Enlightened Ones" could manipulate their surroundings, such as fly or walk through walls. Relate that to this verse.

(Mat 17:20 NASB) if you have faith as a mustard seed, you shall say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it shall move; and nothing shall be impossible to you.

No given that all of this is a bit outlandish you might see how this movie mimicked the life of a Christian and how the ware for our souls wages all around us even though we are not physically aware of it.

There were other parodies in the movie but I am tired of typing, so if you want to know more, just watch the movie with the eyes of a Christian.

Yes but I won't watch it again. The profanity is unbearable. How many times did they take the Lord's name in vain in it?

As far as Christianity in the Matrix goes, ummmm.... no. It's much more New Age than Christianity. Sure, you've got names like Trinity and the Nebuchadnezzar, but look at all the new age ideals represented. "You're my savior, man. My own personal Jesus Christ." Neo becomes the One only when he believes. In essence, he makes himself his own personal God, and everyone else's as well. Very New Age. Definitely more so than Christian

Matrix Continued...

I am in no way saying that it is, or was intended to be a Christian movie or to parallel it in any way. I am saying that the underlying theme is that of spiritual warfare, even though they, I am sure, did not intend it to be so.

Every once in awile hollywood puts out somthing that is almost christian in principal. another good example would be The Stand, by Stephen King.

The main reason I read Stephen King books is not because they're scary - but because King does a great job in writing about the battle between good and evil, like in The Stand, and the Dark Tower series. Heck, I think his best book is "The Eye Of The Dragon".

I'm looking forward to the movie "Dreamcatcher". That was a scary book.
