Nashville, TN...12/08/04...The 47th Annual GRAMMY Awards nominations were announced yesterday, and Skillet was among the nominees for Best Rock Gospel Album for their best-selling project, Collide.
Upon hearing the news of their nomination, lead singer John Cooper said, "First off we were really surprised since this was our first GRAMMY nomination. I think it is super cool and an honor to be in such great company with the other nominees tobyMac, Third Day, TAIT, and Sarah Kelly."
President of Ardent Music LLC John Fry stated of the nomination, "We are extremely pleased that Skillet has been recognized by the Recording Academy. This honor is well deserved and reflects Skillet's talent and diligent commitment."
The 47th Annual GRAMMY Awards will be hosted in Los Angeles at STAPLES Center on "GRAMMY Sunday" on February 13, 2005, and broadcasted on the CBS Television Network at 8 p.m. (ET/PT).
Skillet has released a total of five albums, which have sold upwards of 600,000 units in the U.S., with Collide being their best-selling project to date. The band, fronted by the husband and wife team of John Cooper (vocals/bass) and Korey Cooper (guitar/keyboard), combine elements of rock, metal and goth with pulsating, hook-filled melodies. Rounding out the band are 20-year-old guitarist Ben Kasica and powerhouse drummer Lori Peters. Together, Skillet has performed over 200 live dates in the last year alone in front of 500,000 people.
