I am not a guy, but I sing and play the piano at the same time. People tell me they think it's awesome and wish they could play too. There are a TON of guy piano players. I know at least seven of my closest guy friends can play piano. And they all are really into advanced classical music. I'm pretty much jealous every second of my life, in that respect. I can play chords, and make it sound decent, but I would absolutley love to play like my guy friends do. But I only use it for writing songs and praise and worship at church, so I'm pretty happy where I'm at, and considering that seven years ago I couldn't play anything at all.

I play the piano and sing (or at least i try to... ) , but i'm not a guy.
Yeah, some guys think it's gay, and they always will, but most girls thinks it's awesome. So would you rather have a lot of girls that think you are awesome, or a couple guys think that you are gay? (That's actually a pretty hard question....)

I sing and play piano. Or guitar. Or bass. Heck, I can play the drums while singing, and it's easier than playing any of the other instruments while I sing because drums is my first instrument. The only problem is getting a mic for my voice that won't pick up the drums.

I sing and play both. I sing and play piano, sing and play guitar, sing and play bass. You know. But yeah. No one's ever grouped me.

Well, I guess I sing and play the piano occasionally, but it's not really piano. I use some kind of Korg. We get some really crazy sounds out of that thing.
We go for a sort of coldplay/athlete style to our worship, so I end up playing keyboards more often than not.

But your right. Guitar is sort of taking over, and rightly so, it's much easier to lead worship on the guitar, and it gives you freedom to walk around the stage etc. It has unlimited possibilities.

But I have to say, keyboards/piano stil have thier place, so long as you use them right. Like, we don't use classical instruments much anymore. But every so often we get a violin to play in some of the songs, because occasionally, it rocks.

And that's my contribution on the subject.

that sounds really interesting. I'd like to hear it. In our worship band, we play very well except our keyboard player is reallly good at piano but not at sound effects and synths. Without this there is often an emptiness to songs so I still definatly think keyboard is an essential part of this type of music.

yeah, but both mat and chris are "piano praisers" in thier own right. The time and place is a big on where and what to play.
Like Piano, or even keyboard, are not as easy to transport as a guitar. But I see big artists making a comeback in the hymns and traditional spirituals, that are characterized by piono, and traditional church music.
some hymns are being played with guitar, but in some cases the succulent sound of the piano can still be heard in the strains of the music.

of course, as far as the portability is being discussed, there are some guitar \-like keyboards out there.

hahaha, I've never really had that problem. I guess it depends on other factors. I'm a pretty stereotypical guy, so I never really get labelled gay, so I guess it wouldn't come up in this situation. Who knows... it also depends on the music you do. I do a lot of soft rock/ country, and the stuff I write about definitely isn't gay, so it's cool.
