| Christian bands like The Who and Led Zeppelin? Please give me some suggestions for CD's by Christian bands that are in the category of guitar rock or classic rock, along the lines of the two examples above.
I want to get my son [15 years old] interested in Christian music, because it is "healthier" spiritually. I know it's out there, but I am not as familiar as I was 10 or 20 yrs ago with the CCM scene. I know about 77's, Petra, Keaggy, Whiteheart, but some of the newer groups are beyond me.
Most demo CD's I listen to have short songs and are in a somewhat more "pop" format. I hate to use that term, but it paints a picture of the contrast between that and the more instrumental-oriented style we like. Specifically you find longer solos [guitar or otherwise] and more intricate music in the style we are after.
My son plays bass, so that tells you why The Who strikes his fancy. He and his older brother listen to much the same music as I did as a teenager. He even likes Yes. So if somebody [come on, bass players!] knows of some good bass stuff, pass it on!
Thanks in advance. |

Thanks in advance. | Well, the first 5 Supertones albums (with Tony Terusa) had some nice lines on them... Nothing like the caliber of what Chris Squire plays, but still pretty good. |

| There's an indie Christian band called New Jerusalem which is heavily influenced by Led Zeppelin. I believe they can be found on Soundclick ( www.soundclick.com) I think if you fish trough there and find the site they sell their CD from, you'll be set |

| How "classic sounding" is Stereo Motion? I've heard that they are (or were, actually), but I have never listened to their music myself.

| If your looking for Classic Rock, this is a great site to check out: http://one-way.org/jesusmusic/index.html Go to the top 50 and you can find clips of this dudes favorite rock albums from 1969-1979...There are bands on there I'd never heard of...But that also makes it hard to get some of them. |

| Well, the fella that runs the site has many of those records transferred onto MP3 and you can ask him for a burned copy of the album, for a suggested donation. Some do have CD re-releases, in fact, it's posted on the individual artist pages and on a specific page. |

| Zeppelin.. are you kidding? Never.. .. I mean who in or out of Christian music can sing like Robert Plant.. or plays like Jimmy Page, not to mention Bonham and Jones. Rez band rawks hard for that style, and they are certainly edifying, but LZ they are not.
Notice my incredibly obnoxious stance on this.. It's because I myself wish that Christian musicians would have stepped up to the plate a long time ago and ( Since they are playing for the KING ) at least tried to match the ingenuity of their secular counterparts. Save Kansas and a few others though they were unable to signify themselves as "Christian".
Anyway, this is getting way off into another subject for another forum and it's easy for me to sit here in the comfort of my little bubble and sling darts at these talented Christian musicians who were in essence forced to go with the flow or retreat into oblivion. Or even not to openly call themselves Christian, not for shame of the mainstream primarily, but for fear that they would be rejected by the Christian community for being "too wordly" in their music.
My my.. how things have changed eh? |

| Well, with those early artists, the actual music wasn't the primary thing to focus on. To them, the first focus was on the words and how to use them in their concerts and albums to bring people to Jesus and build up existing Christians. Lately what we're getting is music with Christianity in it, but it is not necessarily used to minister for a large part (not that there's anything wrong with that), and that leaves more room and time for focusing on the music. Just my two cents. |

| Led Zeppelin, well you can argue how "involved" the band/music is with satanism, but Robert Plant and Jimmy Page definitely had an "interest" with the occult... its good music, but just given that... |

I did add some useless band info on here so i got rid of that and im just goin to rewrite some of the stuff about the bands who do have solos and lots of nice bass stuff (none of these bands r like those bands youve mentioned though....and if your going to be that freakin picky then you should just stay with your secular crap becuase there r very few christian bands that have some characteristics as the ones youve mentioned)
TRUSTcompany - lots of bass (not a complete christian band but does have christian-like lyrics)
evenescence - again...not a complete christian band...has short solos on many songs
12stone - christian.....short solos
thousand foot krutch - some nice bass stuff...not much but more than most bands.
(add to later unless this is useless to you)
