fix/declaw

well... later today we're taking our boy kittens to get their "snip-snip" done. We're hoping that if they're fixed before they start to mature & spray that we won't have to deal with the stink. not to mention, if they were to get anyone pregnant it'd be their mother or sister... and that would just be bad. (reminds me of a news article I read about a kitten with a third ear. )

the 2 female cats at our apartment aren't fixed. We haven't had too much difficulty with them going into heat (mind, one's 5 months--sister to the 2 getting fixed) so we're just getting the males done first.

yeah but the momma cat has been quiet. No rolling around and whining.

My favourite part of tomorrow is the declaw. I've lost enough blood to those cats as it is.

Hahaha, that's great. I never had my cat declawed. He is an outside cat as well as an inside one so we couldn't really consider it. He never scrathed anyone either. It's like he knows that it he does he will be declawed and he won't be allowed to go outside... haha, smart kitty.

Peace and love,
Rhonda.

ours are indoors only (which is probably good given that we live on the 5th floor of an apartment building)

so now we'll have 4 declawed kitties and only one with claws. THAT should be interesting.

Your getting your cat declawed??? that is so horrifying!!! I know it's normal and I understand the reasons for it... but... it's horrible what it does it's like cutting off part of your fingers.. it's really not very nice for the animals. but yea

that's why they anaestethize them and take care of them over night. ^_^ Plus they did it with lasers so there was less bleeding and everything.

our cats are all indoor only. for the sake of my furniture and Chris' blood staying inside his body, having them declawed seemed to be the correct solution.

there were 2 of the cats specifically that we commented that it was a shame to have to declaw them because they were so acrobatic...

I imagine they will be able to find new and exciting ways to express their agility.

It is still possible for them to spray. We had talked about this in my Animal Science class, during the behavior unit. I am not at home so I can't get my notes and stuff but I am positive they said they will spray if they are under stress too.

the daddy cat DOES spray (although he's fixed) so I'm well aware that they can still spray when they're fixed.

however my grandparents have a male cat who was fixed at 5 or 6 months of age and he's never sprayed... so I was hoping the same thing would work for the little boys.

I hope it all works out I know how bad it can smell if they do spray.
