gibson pickups

anyone use them? and if so, which ones. i am not wanting to hear about how you think that they're over priced because i am going to probably be getting them factory direct thanks to a guy that goes to my church and works for gibson accs.

I've got a couple of 490R/498T sets. That combo is a good Jack-of-all-trades/master-of-none set.

Pros: Very versatile, can go from blues to metal.
498T sounds great dirty
490R sounds great clean
great middle position tone

Cons: Doesn't nail any one style.
498T sounds thin clean
490R sounds muddy dirty

My brother-in-law has a 496R/500T set in his LP Classic. Those pickups sound good for heavy rock and metal, but they're a little too hot for anything else.

My cousin has a pair of 57 Classics in his SG. They have a great PAF tone, and I'm considering a set for one of my Les Pauls.

I can say that the stocks on my Gibson LP Studio are pretty good, however I didn't quite like the tone of the bridge pickup, so I swapped it for a JB. The neck pickup is great, tho.

For reference, LP Studios have the 490R neck and 498T bridge.

I recentley installed a set of burstbucker (1 in the bridge, 2 in the neck) in my LP, and I have to say that I absolutley love them. I find that these pickups have great sustain, reasonably high output, and a strong mid range. The only problem I found was that, when you raise the bridge pickup to get a stronger signal the sound gets a little harsh (of course I use Hybrid slinkeys). I would put them in any guitar intended for Jazz (neck pickup) Rock, Metal, HonkeyTonk, and Satriani type leads. Oh, I forgot to meantion that these pickups work great for harmonics(especialy pinch harmonics).

Hope that helps
