Wow. I really like the guitar work on "Let's do it right". Very...sick.

But when you guys play live, it won't sound the same because you have the rhythm guitar in the background on this and then the solo over it. That is a bit dissapointing to me at least but I did enjoy it.

optimally we'd be a five piece, with a better bassist i'd move to rhythm guitar, and we'd have a full-time vocalist...but this isn't going to happen and it's not a big deal really. live, i just have to make sure i cover the bass end well enough to keep the progression going.

more members = more problems in my experience, the beauty of yfb to me isn't so much the music, but it's us as individuals and the mindset we take towards music...we're very laid back guys, which is why adding anyone else to the band is going to be difficult because we'd have to find peopel with the same mindset as us with the same approach to rock n' roll

wow, this is rockin! the vocals didn't sound too bad just some technical recording issues. i'm sure it'd sound a lot better with a better recording. i think you guys got some good stuff going here. \m/

yeah, we had practice tonight...good times. like i said, the few shows we've done i don't think there's been as much problem with the vocals, it's strictly related to the recording environment.

just an update, we're looking at re-recording our demo and some more songs (make it more like an EP) soon...we're hopefully going to get the help of Sean O from Reeve Oliver (www.reeveoliver.com rumor is he wants to produce it).

we've written and performed i think three new songs since the last posting

I dig the music. While the vocals aren't bad, the songs would benefit from having a powerful vocalist on them.

hopefully the new recording will take care of that...it's one thing to record with pro-tools and an Mbox in your drummer's bedroom and another to record in the home-studio of a professional musician and producer of a semi-major label album

guy, i finally took the time to listen.

I REALLY LIKE IT!

Is there anyway I could get my hands on the mp3's of the newest recordings? I listened to them on myspace (and added you as a friend), but I'd love to be able to listen to them without having to go to that site.

Thanks a lot man. You guys really rock!

when it gets put together (looking at at least a two-month timeline right now i'd guess) i'll put up a notice here and other places.

i can send you the current demo (the one on the myspace and purevolume) over AIM sometime if you want...there's only four songs.

wow, great band. Do u guys have a cd? I agree that the vocals leave alot to be desired, but the music is very good. Great guitar licks. Enlist a vocalist, maybe one the plays rythym guitar and that will really improve you guys I think. But I like ur stuff alot. You have a very professional air, and I think you have great potential.

we just have a demo cd right now. i don't even know how many copies we have left from our original run, i just know that we're running out.

we've talked about getting a vocalist and/or rhythm guitarist. the thing is we're not really up to getting a "gun for hire" or really putting up an active search. before i was the bassist for yfb, i was a guitarist (and i still am a guitarist)...one thing we as a band have somewhat come to conclude was that our formation was partly because we were three guys who wanted to have fun with music, but more importantly we're three guys who have generally the same mindless towards music and life in general...we get along as people first and musicians second.

I listened to your songs on PV, they sound pretty good. I do hear some issues with timing and tightness. Your guitar player has some chops, but is sometimes a bit out of meter. The other guitar is in front of the drums somewhat here and there as well. I don't know if this is due to the recording environment or not, but it's causing the feel of the songs to be thrown off for sure. I think your singer should be fine, he's not bad. Good luck with that guy from Reeve Oliver.

it was probably a protools issue. there's alot of things lost/added in the studio that don't exist when you're playing live...for example the recording has two guitars...but there's only one guitarist.

i don't think we're going to get our next demo produced anymore. it seems like the more we just try to have fun with it the more successful we are. so here's to not trying to be successful at all.

An update:

We haven't really had much time to finish our tracks for the surf movie we were asked to do, but hopefully soon it will be done

We have a show coming up on July 15th (i'll update again with more info for you san diego types in a week or so). Hopefully we'll get a good 6-10 shows this summer. It's been slow so far.

We do have another two or three songs (maybe more) since my last update. It's cool having a larger song library...now if venues would give us more time to play them all.

Oh, to have the time & money to have an indie label. I would sign the Jolly Rogers & My Favorite Band immediately (I think folks should substitute the "your" for "my" when referring to you guys - add that to your mythos. You all describe yourselves as "your favorite band" and we call you "our favorite band." The adjective changes).

I think the vocals are fine - they remind me of mid-sixties rock, when vocalists were eager but not yet over-the-top. Unintentionally you all remind me of the Darkest of the Hillside Thickets - I think they pull off deep vocals as well.

Part of me is unsure about the lyrics. On the one hand, I'll love to see deep, layered wordsmithery over a style of music like this. On the other hand, the way you have the lyrics now seems to fit your tongue-in-cheek image, and that may be fine.

You guys have scads of potential - for a first recording, this is great stuff. Get a better recording, and this stuff will be ever hotter than it is.
