Can people learn to sing?

This is kind of a useless poll, because God can give everyone gifts if they ask him for some.

But that aside, do you think people can learn to sing? I've never been a good singer and want to start now but in church i'm a terrible singer. i've got no confidence in myself.

do you reckon there is any hope for people such as me?

Matt

Just belt out the songs as loud as you can - people will think "Oh he sings loud - he must be good!"

Seems to work for most of the ladies in my church

Personally, i don't think you can *learn* to sing, well, only if you have a natural ability, or if God does a miracle!

I think it's best to start singing as young as possible, but, if God has truly gifted you....well.....you won't know til you try!

I can play instruments and hear music really well, but I can't sing at all. I wasn't blessed with it so there's really not much i can do about it. I can get better at making the right pitch come out, but I'll never really be good at it.

well I would have to hear you sing to provide any pointers. So it might be a little hard to help you out over these boards.

People can too learn how to sing!!!!

i learned how to sing!

last year i was horrible and this year i really worked at it and even though its not that great, its still much much better.

if you want to learn how to sing if you don t have a good voice, just work at it. it takes awhile, maybe even years. But that is the price i'm paying if i want to have a strong voice by the time i'm 17. I record myself and play it back and keep doing it until i pick out all my flaws and try to change them. it worked for me

That's really encouraging. Thanks

I might give it a go after my exams are over.

I know this thread is kinda old, but I wanted to throw my thought in here. I am a firm believer that almost everyone can sing, even sing well, if they just knew how. Some people just don't have the patience to learn. It is just like anything else, it just takes practice.

for some people singing comes easily, for others it's harder...there's no learning...

everyone can sing, some just better than others

I agree with Rudolph. Also it says make a joyful noise and any noise that is coming from your mouth praising God with your whole heart is beautiful to Him . Anyway if we all sounded like Nicole C Mullen or Mark Shultz or <insert fav singer here> we woulnd't be unique and gifted in our own ways and music would be kinda dull. Well praise God in our own way and it is perfect whether it sounds amazing or horrible .

Ditto. Anybody can sing. Like Singin4Him82 said, we wouldn't all sound unique, if we all sounded like our favorite singers. But we do all sound different. But keep in mind that what in our minds might be good, may really not sound good to God. 'Man looks at the outward appearances, but God looks at the heart.' I believe that applies to music and singing. If you're really worshipping God, it doesn't matter how it sounds to human ears, to God's ears its a beautiful sound!

I have a good choir voice (I am in choir and ensemble at school) I just don't have a good solo voice. I am trying to get a good solo voice though...it would be sweet to have some solos senior year...and lead worship since I play guitar for my worship team. Any good tips for someone in my position? I work pretty hard at it and sing at home for atleast an hour every night.
