| The Foolish King. There once lived a mighty king who ruled the land with an iron fist. It came to his attention that one of his counts was organizing an army to overthrow the king. Well, the king immediately had the count captured and brought in. He had been friends with this count and took pity on him, saying, "If you tell me where your bases are I'll let you live." The Count refused to tell him anything. The king admired his bravery saying, "That's very brave of you, but your courage is useless here, tell me where your bases are and I will not kill you." The count again refused. The king grew impatient with the prisoner and declared, "I cannot have a rebel count in my kingdom, if you do not tell me, you shall die!" The count remained silent this time and was thusly sentenced to death. Upon the day of the excecution, the starved and tortured prisoner was brought out into the public square. The executioner came out with a giant hatchet sharp off the stone. As the executioner was getting ready to swing, the count screamed out, "wait wait, I'll tell you!!!..." but the hatchet found its mark as the executioner was deaf.
Two months later, the king was overthrown by the count's many allies who had been at his bases.
The moral of the story, "Don't Hatchet your counts before they chicken." |
