Mercy (RC)

I wrote this as an assigment for Bible class. It's based on the beatitude in Matthew 5:7. I don't think it's too great but here it is.

Mercy
A five letter word
So small
Yet meaning so much
If I did something that hurt you
Would you forgive me?
Would you have mercy on me?
Walking down the street, minding my own business
Someone jumps out
Knife to my throat
I say, “Please, don’t. Have mercy, please”
The man stops to think.
I tell him
“Have mercy, you never know when you’ll be the one that needs it.”
“Okay, you can go” he tells me
A few weeks later, I’m watching the news
I see that guy on TV
On trial for murder
I guess someone wasn’t as lucky as me
The judge asks the victim’s parents
“Life or death?”
I hear something that surprises me
It’s the man saying “Please, have mercy”
The two parents being the people they are
They say “Sir, you will live”
He says “Thank you”
“Thank you”
As you can see
You need to give mercy
Because you never know when you’ll be the one crying out
“Please, have mercy on me”
