Well, it depends. If you have a sore throat you shouldn't sing period...I mean I can't stress that enough b/c it could really mess you so you should take it easy. Otherwise, if it's just a normal cold it's no biggy, actually by singing as nasty as this will sound it helps losen the junk in your nose and stuff and it's actually good for ya .

Olivia,
I'm gonna go one grosser than Singing4him...
have you ever used a saline solution in your nose??.. there's saline specifically for the nose and it's basically salt water..a brand name is "Sea Salt"..but eckerds and krogers stores like that have store brands..
anyway it's purpose is to moisturize the nose..which helps to unclog the mucus.. also avoid foods that produce additional mucus.. dairy.. (even mayo and salad dressings) beef and pork... and work on your breath support ( I am broken record with this advice) if you have a strong diaphragm you can still sing without your nose... but ike singin said.. if your really sick.. give yourself a break.. drink tea with honey and lemon ... and don't forget your vitamin c and echinacea to boost your immune system!!!
**stepping off my soapbox now...lol**
good luck.. and get well soon

I hate colds. That happened to me last year when I was singing and I started coughing while I was playing...

you cannot really sing when your passages are stuffed up, since there is no place in your head for the sound to resonate. A voice instructor told a group at our church that he would rather sing with a sore throat than a cold because you can get away with it. I think we should just pray that your cold will go away.

Unhappy

Singing with a cold is a pest. I already have enough trouble with my breathing when I sing, and with stuffed up nasal passages as an extra bonus, it is tedious. I usually get some REALLY strong cough drops and they kinda help to clear me up somewhat. Mostly you just gotta grin and bear it. It is annoying though, especially if you are singing for something really special that you have been getting ready for for awhile and you know you usually sound better than this, but because of the cold you sound less than perfect. Makes me mad!
