This kid is Amazing... Gustavo Guerra

Has anyone seen this dude? He posted a few covers, they are note-for-note perfect so far as I can hear.

How good is this guy?

Satriani - Surfing with the alien

Vai - Tender surrender

Malmsteem - Far beyond the sun

The guy has speed accuracy and tecnique. He also showed feel. I love the well placed note thang but guys like Dan Huff and Gary Moore can do that then punctuate it with speed and solid tecnique.

Ok, so I just watched "Surfing" and "Far beyond..."

He's got Satriani down pretty well. It's not exactly like Joe...only Joe plays like Joe...but it's a really good imitation.

His Yngwie needs a little more work...again, he's not going to sound just like Yng no matter how hard he tries...but he's doing a fantastic job at most of the runs...better than I can do and maybe better than I've done when I actually cared about this kind of music.

I kind of like to look at this particular video as an interpretation rather than an imitation. He didn't neccessarily play everything exactly as it is. He choose to go the "live Satch" route and change a couple things up. Interpret, rather than recite. Which tells me he has a pretty good sense for music, instead of just learning to play songs. So many cats try to play like Satch, or Vai, but they can't. I liked how this guy (at least on Surfing) took the tune and kind of made it his own.

I found this rather fascinating, but was it just my imagination, or was he playing with three distinctly different techniques for each tune?

Hmmmm look what I started. I have been reading everyone’s responses, I’m not that interested in what I have to say; far more interested in others' opinions. I also didn't want to steer or influence the direction in which the thread took.

I am a new guitar player who has for years listened to people that I consider virtuosos. Players like Satriani, Vai, Malmsteem, Clapton, Page, Hendrix, E Johnson, Petruchhi et al. When I see a player who is virtually unknown, youngish (he claims 20 on his website), and is playing music I’ve considered for years to be some of the most technically demanding pieces one can play; not to mention playing vastly better than anyone I’ve ever heard attempt them, I think it's really inspiring.

Also, not being an expert myself I am fascinated by people who achieve such a quantum leap of ability above the ordinary person. I legitimately wanted to see peoples reaction to his playing. To me, it's the best I’ve heard of anyone who is not in that group I listed above... i.e. professional, well-known studio musicians. I wanted to see if others felt the same way. I certainly am not trying to sell or promote or advertise anything, I have no vested interest in anything beyond the insight of peoples opinions as expressed on these forums.

Thanks all for the feedback, and please keep it coming; I'm still under the impression this guy is a 'Michael Jordan' level of guitarist.

ps. I'm going to have to break the rules and include one more video link, the same guy doing the Vai classic For the love of God

Yea im with you on that bro, keep the vids coming. Im always excited to see people up and coming, who want to put in the time to develop superior technique rather then just be lazy and stagnate at one level of ability. There was too much of that in the grunge era. Im glad its over! Do you know if he has vids of any originals?

Wow that acoustic tapping was awesome!!! Thanks for the posts. Starry Nights was neat too, but I'm not really that into electric guitars

So, I busted out my moderating scissors and neutered this sucker. if someone wants to make a thread about shredding, then make a new one and keep it civil. If you have a problem with my decision, PM me and I'll be more than happy to talk to you about it so we can keep things civil.
