May homework die a painful death, just as it has caused a painful death for children worldwide.

Oh, come on, homework isn't that bad... as long as it's not busy work. If it has a point and there's not too much of it, then it can be almost fun. But I guess since I'm paying $1,000 per class, not having that attitude would be a waste of money.

Yeah, college will do amazing things to one's perspective on homework. If you're taking a class were most of the grade is based on tests (rather than essays, since most college classes are one or the other), you might even find yourself doing extra homework problems in addition to what the prof. requires you to turn in.

A smart professor doesn't require you to turn in any homework and just assumes you'll do it on your own in order to pass the tests.

I look at it this way... I'm a computer engineering major. I go to a private school, and probably 4/5 or more of my tuition is covered by grants & scholarships, then the rest is loans. If I had gone to the state school nearest the school I go to, I would pay probably 10% of what I do now. But when you compare the average starting salaries and actual % of students who got jobs within 6-12 months of graduation for my major... the salary for my school was about 52k, the other's was 48k. So even if I had 4k a year in loans, the difference would be made up in my first 4 years of working.

I used to not think that homework was so bad until this year when homework suddenly became HARD.

It's the only way to learn math. Unless you're Newton or Archimedes. Then you invent math.

No, work is not for school. The problem is that high school, with the amount of teaching they actually do, should be reduced to 3-4 hours a day. They student could then spend part of the remaining 3-4 hrs they spend in school doing nothing at home doing homework. Then they could learn faster, be through high school by 15, then by 20 be out of college, and working a good and from a practical perspective, able to get married, buy a house, a good car, be independent of they're parents, etc.

But for some reason state laws mandate that you suffer through 12 years of crappy education making it extremely difficult to be well off financially and through with any college any earlier than 22.

You cant learn it that way, unless you want 5 hr a day math classes.
