This is a Catholic forum, but when you start bad mouthing " most Protestant" churches for no reason then I feel I have the right to comment on what you said.
The reason I let my 14 almost 15 year old son attend this church is I have been there, and I believe getting basic values on Christianty is better then nothing. I talked to numerous people, including our parish Father, who advised me NOT to FORCE him to coming to the Catholic church, as it could very well push him away from any Christian learning. The Father advised me also to let him attend the "fun" church, because he might never go back to any church, after he turned 18. I agree with his thinking, as this very thing happened to my father, who was "forced" to go to church morning noon and night. Now he won't enter any church, doesn't believe, didn't even come to my confirmation. So to answer your ?, I don't force him to believe what I believe, but this non-denomiational church, even if he doesn't win the X-box, is better then nutting' at all. At least he's getting like I said before, the basics. Father also suggested to let him see me do the Rosary, my morning and nightly prayers, and keep the Bible aroundand all my statues, icons, prayer books, etc. Oh about the X-box thing. they even get points for bringing friends, Bibles, whether they attend church on Sun, Wed, Sun evening etc. Whatever it takes to get people to attend ones church. Outside of the Catholic church, this church has the largest membership, in our small Alaskan town. They even beat out our local Russian Orthodox church. So bribery does lure people into their way of thinking. Sad but true, but if it gets my son the basics of Christianity, then AMEN. I don't put down any Christian, because we all are one in Christ, I just believe the church I attend is the Jesus ordered his Apostles to continue after he ascended. KF, I'm also thru with this topic with you, it sounds to me you just want to pick a fight, and I won't go there. You need to read and talk more to Goldenchild, she will lead you to the answers you need. I just don't have the time. Mass is to important to me to miss. Still yours in Christ Loreal

You said the church just "entertained" , now you are saying it teaches the basic values of Christianity?? I doubt that church has a large membership because of one activity done with the youth that involved an X box. You are being unjust to that church by making such implications about them. You have been putting down Christians... Protestant Christians... claiming that they don't worship but sit around getting entertained.

It is not me who wants to pick a fight, it is you who wishes to go in to threads and post things totally unrelated to the thread that do nothing more than bash Protestants. You need to examine why you went in to a thread on Cathedral parishes and made such comments about " most Protestant" churches as that had nothing at all to do with Cathedral parishes.

Oh, and goldenchild is a MALE, just an FYI.

Just reading through the last little argument I would say that I agree with both you guys. A lot of Protestant churches (and I am protestant BTW) do whatever they can to get new members; a lot of them 'entertain', at least to some degree. I personally feel that the Protestant faith is at times, too simple. The accept, believe, confess and ye shall be saved thing is great but that is only the beginning. I think that the message of dying to onesself is lost in the protestant church because the attitude is one of we don't want to infringe on your life very much but accept Jesus. I think in the more traditional churches, ie. anglican and especially Roman Catholicism, the idea of dying to oneself is more prevalent although I would say that a lot of member have gotten that message screwed up or refused to listen to it.

Those however are some generalizations based on my own personal observations of both the RCC church and the protestant church.
