| Oi!!! I would just like to give props to LWatford for being the first one to mention Mike Portnoy. The man, as far as any other drummer in the business, is not only techinically far more advanced than most drummers, but also musically superior. His time in Berklee, along with Vinny Callheuta (sp?) allows him to understand his music and write crazy, odd-time progressive rhythms that make you wonder. Dance of Eternity for one. I'm also in love with Virgil Donati. If you don't know him, you're not a drummer. The man is techinically awesome. His feet are baffling sometimes.
I get so pissed off because there are so many god **** drummers out there that are praised for their playing, and they suck so much. One may say, Blink 182's drummer is great, I just giggle within myself and shudder at the same time. Then they might say, "Well, he's the best for his style." I've got news, he can't play any better than that style, if he could, he wouldn't waste his time, OR, he likes it, which severely cuts his potential down to nothing, OR, he's selling out. I believe all three. See, Mike Portnoy, Vinny C. and Virgil (among others) can already play that style and BEYOND. Its stupid to say Travis is the best for his style, in the drum world, you either suck, or you don't. He does.
Other examples of bad drummers that aught to be shot - Korn's drummer, Limp Bizkit's drummer, POD's, and YES, Creed's AND Linkin Park's too!
Before you say anything, I don't knock players on the personal level, only by playing ability, and yes, I also don't knock those who are better than me. That's just rediculous.
