Squier is basically what Fender's super-low priced models are. Usually they don't have as high a quality of wood and/or electronics (the pickups, controls, etc.), and Squiers always have a lower price. For example, the Squier Affinity P-bass is just below the standards for Fender's Standard P, and with a lower price. I see nothing wrong with a Squier, it's just that I don't favor them. I perfer the Fender standards. Ovation does the same thing with Applause, and Warwick with RockBass. Squier is a good starter bass, if you want the basics, though, if you want better electronics, you could probably trade up to a Fender.
