The Greatest Rescue

"The Greatest Rescue"
By: Zach Wood
Colossians 1:13-14
For he has rescued us from the kingdom of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son
he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

When I was a kid, I used to love watching "Rescue 911" on TV. It was a great show with scenarios of people coming across trouble and then getting rescued. Each story was different, but usually had the same ending.....a person or people getting rescued. Most of the stories really touched my heart because of the music, the words people used to describe the rescue, and many times the rescued getting to meet the one or ones who came to the rescue.

As I consider this thought, I think about how awesome a rescue each one of us has gone through into becoming a child of the Kingdom. God came down to earth, died, rose again and became a Savior to all those who will accept Him. The greatest rescue ever occurring in our lives is our rescue from the kingdom of darkness into the Kingdom of Light! Just like the show "Rescue 911", each person in life that comes to Christ has a unique story to tell. It's always encouraging and touching to hear how people have come to know Jesus Christ. However, there is a difference I would like to point out. Unlike the music in the stories, the life Christ gives us is more musical than we could ever imagine! The more we continue to live for Him, the more beautiful the music becomes. I, for one, love music. You can ask anyone who knows me and they will tell you I have had a passion for music all of my life. But there is no music that will make you more enraptured than the music Christ gives through life in Him. So, with the rescue He has given to us in a new life, He also gives to us a musical life more beautiful than anything we've ever heard before.

Lastly, I want to point to the end of each story on the show. Many times, as I said before, the people who are rescued finally get to meet and thank those who performed the rescue. There are tears, meaningful, countless words shared to show appreciation for the rescue. I want to focus on that point most of all here in this devotion. I think about God rescuing me from the life of darkness I used to live in. Do I take the time to give Him praise each day for being Savior of my life and making my life musical? Probably not as much I could. Each of us has so much to thank God for in our lives. Most importantly is saving us from our sins and offering forgiveness. So, let us not forget that after our rescue from the kingdom of darkness, we need to give credit and endless thanks to the One who rescued us. It's great to be rescued, but it's even more meaningful when the One who rescued us constantly receives praise, glory and worship for doing so.

Take the time each day to thank God for performing the greatest rescue of your life, bringing YOU into the Kingdom of Light!
