Olympics Perfect Venue for Delirious?

After setting the standard for global worship/rock anthems, celebrated rock group Delirious? was brought to Greece by the Cultural Committee of Athens to headline an event Aug. 14 during the Olympic celebrations at the Omonia Square in Athens. Featuring representatives from 202 countries, the Olympic Games are the World's most prestigious sporting event, watched by a global TV audience.

"We want to go wherever people resonate with the anthemic worship of their Creator; and that is the world over," says Delirious? frontman Martin Smith. "Our music and our hope are not indigenous to any one country."

UK-based Delirious? members have traveled to the far reaches of the globe performing in countries from Sweden to Australia to Germany to South Africa to the U.S., and everywhere they travel people respond to their music. The band's current tour schedule and history, as well as information on its globally acclaimed 2004 release World Service, can be found at www.delirious.co.uk.

Bridging the gap between rock and worship, Delirious? has sold more than two million albums worldwide and is regarded as the forerunners of the modern worship movement. Since its introduction to the American audience with its Gold-selling album, Cutting Edge (1998), the UK-based band has written such international classics as "I Could Sing of Your Live Forever," "Did You Feel the Mountains Tremble" and "Shout To The North."

In the States, the band's new single, "Majesty (Here I Am)," from World Service, has already become a Top 20 and Top 25 hit on the PDAdvisor and R & R AC charts respectively.

This summer's Olympic Games, held Aug. 13-29, feature 28 Sports, 35 competition venues, 301 medal ceremonies, 72 Olympic training facilities throughout Greece, 10,500 athletes and 5,500 team officials, 202 National Olympic Committees, 45,000 volunteers, more than 21,500 media representatives, 5.3 million ticketed spectators and an anticipated TV viewing audience of 4 billion.
