or save a pic from a website, decrease it in paint to 90x90 pixels, then upload it

A really nice place to get great avatars is www.cheetachat.com
That is where I got mine. They have an avatar depository or repository or something like that. There are a lot of nice avatars (Christian, anime, animals, etc.) but there are a ton of awful ones! It's worth a look if you need a new avatar.
As for me, I don't think I'll ever change mine, unless I find an anime girl that looks more like me than this one does.

Well, I got my friend to scan a picture of one of my favorite cds. Then I got him to make it 90x90 and put it in my options (too lazy to do it myself!)
