12 string GAS

I want to add a 12 string AE to my collection. There are times when it would fit in well into the praise mix in our church. So far, I haven't found any worth buying (Fender and Ibanez), but I am still looking.

Anybody played one they really liked? I have heard great things about Taylor and Guilds, but they can get pricey. What about Takamines- any good? I'd like to stay under $1k if possible.

TIA

Check out the Seagull M12

Here's Harmony Central's review

Add a Fishman or LR Baggs, and you're in bidness.

The Hawaiian slack key guys I've watched were using Ovations and Takamines and they sounded good. That's only for the ones I've noticed, not all of them.

look used (wow I say that a lot). You might be able to find a taylor for under 1k... maybe. I'm telling yeah there is nothing like the sound of them. Fender's are good, you just need to find the right one. I like their prices though. Ovation are nice as well as Cort 12 strings (Canadian made). Good luck.

If you want to be closer to $1000 look into some used guilds. Taylors do have a sound of their own (which I dont really like (except for the Loe Kotke)) and im sure can fine a 355 in your price range. If you are looking for somthing less pricey, I just got a yamaha that I love, FG-413S-12 for about $300. I would look for a plain acoustic and stick your own pickup in it.

I have never played a 12 string I didn't like, sound-wise.

I recently got an Ibanez AEF1812NT 12-String AE as a graduation gift. It sounds great, and plays well, was about $489. Only thing I have against it is that was fret board is a little high, but you can always get it adjusted...but if you're looking for something cheaper, but still has a good quality sound, Takamine's are a good choice.
