A Life Worth Living

"A Life Worth Living"
By: Zach Wood
1 John 5:12
He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.

There's something extra special and unique about the life of freedom and joy God gives to us when we give our lives to Him. He brings a joy and peace unlike anything we could experience from the world. He gives us life that cannot be explained. He gives us a joy that cannot be shared within only a few minutes with someone. In Jesus Christ, we have a true life worth living.

However, it seems that many of us have forgotten how wonderful life is with our Savior. I look around at some Christians and I see dead souls and little joy. I look and see other Christians with a little more joy and vibrant souls, but it doesn't show that much. Not only do I look at these people, but I look at myself and my heart and evaluate if I am showing the vibrant life worth living. Do I have a joyful attitude and an alive soul for Christ? As I was reading this chapter in 1 John, my attention was caught by this verse. It says that whoever has the Son has life. Not just a living, breathing life to survive, but a life that is truly worth living and sharing! I can't help but to think God looks down on His creation, with a broken heart to see so many of us living like we don't have anything exciting to share or live for. What could be further from the truth?!

We who have Christ in our lives need to be joyful and realize that we have the best life anyone could ever have. The world needs to see that vibrant life showing and glowing from us. Do we have a life worth living? Do we show a life that has been changed and renewed by Jesus Christ? There's a lost and dying world that desperately needs to see our shining light. God has called us to be Children of the Light. God is the light that will light our paths and the paths of those who don't know Him. Lost people aren't going to discover the Light unless they see it in us. We have Jesus Christ and we have a light to shine to the world around us.

Do you feel that you have a life worth living? Do you have a joy for Christ which you cannot contain? I want to encourage each of us to keep His light shining and the love flowing to others. We truly do have a life worth living and we need to share that life with those who do not have the life we have in Christ. We have life and joy in Jesus Christ, so let's live that life to the fullest!

A thoughtful, challenging devotional.

It's funny that we become so complacent and disregarding of all that Christ has done for us, because you are right, He has done so much for us that we should live life better than anyone else, a life that is bold and worth sharing with others. In 2 Corinthians 3:12, Paul states "Since we have such a hope, we are very bold..." He lived out the hope he knew he had in Christ... we should too.

Thanks and God bless!

Amen to that. The title and topic of this devotional also reminded me of a haunting anecdote that John Piper recounted in a recent book:
For me as a boy, one of the most gripping illustrations my fiery father used was the story of a man converted in old age. God opened his heart to the Gospel of Christ, and he was saved from his sins and given eternal life. But that did not stop him from sobbing and saying, "I've wasted it! I've wasted it!"

- John Piper, Don't Waste Your Life
May we Christians who have the privilege of looking forward to many more years on this earth strive to avoid having to confront one day a similarly bitter evaluation of the way we've spent those years.

Wow, you nailed it on the spot. I guess sometimes we do forget that we are setting an example to other people and the world is in need of Gods light. Thanks for posting this devotional.
