| He's peeing...on everything! I work at an animal hospital in the kennel, right. 10 hour days, 7 days a week. Walking, feeding, cleaning, bathing...I should know how to take care of a puppy, right? Well, it's got me so stressed out that I'm considering giving him away.
I'm currently attempting to crate train him, to no avail. Since the day I got him, he's been in the kennel with me..in a cage. He should be used to it, but nothing is working.
Then there's the troubles of him peeing...on everythinig. Mom and I have been working with them (my mom got one from the same litter) on doing their business on a pee pad, which is great, but mine is going on the floor, carpet, BED.
Anyone have any ideas as to how to 1) Crate train him so that when I move next weekend, he won't totally annoy the heck out of my new neighbors (apartment), 2) get him to pee on the dadgum pad?

| OK we have done this with Zoe but it might be different with a toy dog. We've been crating her from day one and she never had a prob and it has helped us with her potty training as well but she's still learning. She's had many accidents in the house haha.
Crate training works different with different dogs. Because of the type of dog yours is she could be very prone to seperation anxiety so if she cries and whines that's probably why and peeing might also just be what she does when she's upset. My Maltese would not be crated because her seperation anxiety was to bad but if we tried hard enough we probably could have made it work. It takes a lot of work though, basically you have to just let her cry until she wears herself out and realizes you're not taking her out. Along with that you might want to crate her when you're at home and in sight because if she sees you she might cry a bit but eventually she'll realize you're not going anywhere and she'll settle down and in time she'll feel better about her crate. Do you crate her alone or with the other dog? If you don't, you might want to think about crating them together.
Now about potty training. I'm not for puppy pads as they get older because they'll never learn to go outside if you continue that for to long. The thing you have to remember is puppies have to go A LOT, they have like the smallest bladders in the world and being a toy dog that makes this even more true. So I'd suggest taking her outside every 2 hours or less if possible. It's hard if you're not home to do so. Since she can't hold it she'll just go and there's nothing you can do about it until she gets older and learns to hold it. You have to get her on a schedule as well, make sure you take her out at the same time everyday so she'll start learning the schedule and hopefully hold it until she's supposed to go out. Make up a command as well when you take her out so she knows it's time to go and if she has an accident and you catch her in the act the best thing to do is tell her "uh uh" instead of "no" because "uh uh" catches their attention better than "no" because "no" sounds more like words we say all day to them. Take her outside right away and say the command so she recognizes that's where she goes.
So far this has worked with Zoe, I hope it helps. Now if you could tell me how to get Zoe to stop biting and acting like a dog on speed I'd be a very happy girl lol.

| I've been using the potty pads for when he's in his crate or in a cage at work, or if I'm leaving him here while I go run errands or something like that. He does better going outside and letting me know when he needs to go, but when I'm going to be gone all day he's not going to be able to hold it (at least not for 8 or 9 hours) and I can't have him going on the carpet in the apartment.
He knows the word "outside" and knows to sit at the back door before I'll let him out, so that's been a blessing (He's smart, despite his clumsiness ) and he also knows...well quite a few other commands that have nothing to do with this.
Thing is, he's been in a cage/crate for hours at a time since he was 5 weeks old (the age at which I got him), so you'd think he'd be used to it. Apparently not, though.
