Wow, speaking of Crate amps:

We had a rehearsal for the P & W group today, originally scheduled for 10:00 am like a couple weeks ago. First off, I had forgotten, so was still sleeping at 10:28 when the pastor called "Hey Tom, R U gonna grace us with your presence?" OOPS. Well, they didn't have the sound stuff worked out anyway... I get there, get my electric tuned up, my 2xEL84 1x12 combo amp hooked up, and after a minute it starts to crap out. Great. Try a couple things, works for about a minute, same thing. Dang, heat up problem - bad tube or something. One of the team says he has a guitar amp in his trunk I can use. He brings it in, and its a...a...oh no, not a....
Crate 15R !!!!!

He had bought it for 7 bux at a yard sale. The input jack of course had a broken solder joint, so I hadda tie the cord around the handle with sideways pressure on the jack, it wasn't very loud, the tone wasn't very good, but it worked and I lived to tell the tale.

That which doesn't kill us makes us stronger.

Wow! What a great story Tom! I have a crate 15R ( I think) it's some super cheapie I bought at GC used just to have a quiet little practice amp. Well, actually, it's the second one I've owned...the first one the police came and took it away! Turns out it was stolen property and for some reason, GC wasn't being to careful about what they were selling! It worked out good for me though, because of my hassles, they gave me a brand new model

*EDIT* oh yeah, it has pretty crappy tone

I've used the Crate Vintage Club 50 a fair bit and it sounds great...

Having the experience of currently owing both, I would highly recommend fender over marshall. Not because marshalls are bad, I've found that my fender is much more useful, especially when it comes to great tone. Go to a music store and try them both out, one after another and see which one you like better. Bring your own guitar in so you can make sure you'll hear what they'll really sound like when you get home
