#22 | | !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! | A bit of an old thread, but I thought I'd bring it up again, considering I've been getting into classical music more and more recently.
I find myself often listening to Mahler's 1st Symphony, more so than any other classical piece. Berlioz's Symphonie Fantastique is another that I am really enjoying. The end of the 3rd movement is hauntingly beautiful.
Harry Copeland, John Cage, and Phillip Glass go as my favorite modern classical composers.

| Thanks to listening to Muse, I have now been introduced to Rachmaninoff. Good stuff. I generally don't listen to a whole lot of classical music though as much as I've been wanting to, just don't have any cds of it or legal mp3's.

| I'm into the more modern classical composers (if they're allowed), but my favorites are David Holsinger, James Swearingen, Francis McBeth, and Dmitri Shostakovich.
Favorite pieces of these composers:
Holsinger: Havendance
Swearingen: Novena
McBeth: Chant and Jubilo
Shostakovich: any of the marching drumline shows he arranged on www.drop6.com |

| I like Shostakovich, Prokiofiev, Mahler, Stravinsky, and Paganini. As you can see, I mainly like modern composers except for Paganini. One composer that more people need to check out is Krzysztof Penderecki. He's a Polish composer who, in the 1960's, wrote one of the most challenging pieces of classical music. It was called "Threnody For The Victims Of Hiroshima in 52 Strings" It's played in the extreme high and low registers. I downloaded it (shame on me) but I'm planning on buying a cd that has his major works. If this is a sign of anything, I would sure love to hear his choral works.

| I'm going with Chopin because his songs are awesome and they're easier to play than a lot of classical piano pieces. |
